PLAYAS ENCANTADAS (ENCHANTED SHORES)

Quilico visited the valley of Playas Encantadas, located north-west of the Cajas National Park. It consists of 28 lake bodies, being the largest lake "Playas Encantadas" with an area of 40 ac. Its altitudinal range varies from 12,600 FASL to 14,617 FASL at the summit of the symbolic "Cerro Negro" (The Black Mountain). Since 2003, it is Wetland in the list "Ramsar" for its water and biodiversity qualities. The surroundings of the glacier cirque in which this scenario is located, is narrow and surrounded by great elevations that easily surpass the 14,000 FASL, whose slopes show several of talus (fragmented rocks) as a result of the Frost weathering process. These geological features have generated a visual impression with a mysterious aspect, for that reason the name of "Enchanted Shores", place where even the inhabitants of nearest village of Migüir, assure to see phenomena outside the common like the appearance of lights inside the lagoon, or the sighting Of UFOs entering or leaving the lagoon. The fact is that Playas Encantadas is a place that enchants by its natural beauty, its lagoons and mountains full of Andean magic.
