This video provides a magnificent aerial tour of a Great Blue Heron rookery located in Methuen, MA. Great Blue Herons are frequently seen nesting in wetlands and waterways throughout the warm weather months. Their nesting colonies may be visible from long distances with nest clumps at the top of tall trees. This breeding colony has 22 active nests. These herons typically 3-4 eggs. Once hatched, the nestlings have enormous appetites and grow quickly. They will often make first flight just after 60 days from their hatch date. We follow strict protocols to maintain more than needed buffer distances from the nesting area!
