Fall Beauty of Mono Lake
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Check out this drone video of a famous lake in Northern California, compliments of contributor and pilot Allan Crawford. It's called Mono Lake, and it's situated on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, more or less due east from San Francisco. The lake has no natural outlet, and it's known as a saline soda lake which means that its water is alkaline in chemistry. The lake was the primary filming location for the 1973 movie High Plains Drifter, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood.

The stunning fall beauty of Mono Lake Mono Lake, on the eastern side of the Sierras, makes for incredible vistas complete with tufa mounds and the reflections of the deep blue sky, puffy white clouds and local mountains. One of the things that makes Mono Lake spectacular is the "tufa mounds." The mounds are made of calcium carbonate (Limestone) that participates when calcium-rich spring water emerges from springs under the lake and mixes with the carbonate (CO2) rich lake water. The towers, which can be up to 30 feet high, form exclusively below water...but many are exposed to day as a result of a drop in lake level resulting water that was diverted from the lake beginning in 1941 to feed water thirsty Los Angeles.
