(around 40 km) north of Downtown Miami, Fort Lauderdale is the "second" city of Florida's storied Gold Coast.  With its extensive system of canals, rivers, and other waterways, it's truly a boaters' paradise.  As you'll see in the video, the city's waterways function in some ways like a street system.  It takes its name from a series of forts built during the Second Seminole War of the mid-19th century.
