Drones have become an integral part in the photography arms race. Not only does everyone want the latest technology, they seek to use it the most creatively.
These images, are one artist’s step towards creating a new breed of photography: literally highlighting spectacular scenics with the help of a drone.
Photographer Reuben Wu had been flying his 3DR Solo like most aerial photography enthusiasts, when he had a new idea: using the drone not as the camera, but as a tool to illuminate his subjects.
He put together what he called a “DIY” rig complete with a taped-on LED light, then headed into the desert.
Now, Rueben uses a light by drone company Fiilex specifically designed to work with the 3DR Solo. An added bonus? It’s size.
Portability is key for photographers like Reuben, whose ability to create moving images sometimes involves traveling miles into the wilderness.
His aerial and still photography portfolio is extensive, but one of his illuminated works from the desert stands out.
