FPV DRONE RACING, YES WE’VE HEARD OF THAT. DRONE RACING WITHOUT YOUR HANDS, THAT SOUNDS INTERESTING. DRONE RACING WITH YOUR MIND? IMPOSSIBLE! MAYBE… “3…2…1” STUDENTS AND PROFESSORS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA WILL TELL YOU “BRAIN DRONE RACING” IS FAR FROM IMPOSSIBLE. AFTER ALL, THEY’VE DONE IT. 16 PILOTS COMPETED IN WHAT HAS BEEN CALLED THE FIRST BRAIN DRONE RACE COMPETITION.USING ONLY MENTAL WILLPOWER AND AN EEG HEADSET, PILOTS NAVIGATED THEIR DRONES THROUGH THE 10 YARD RACE AT ONE OF THE UNIVERSITY’S GYMS LAST WEEK. AN EEG HEADSET MEASURES ELECTRICAL SIGNALS IN THE BRAIN, SO IT SEES WHICH NEURONS LIGHT UP WHEN YOU ARE THINKING OF OR DOING SOMETHING. FOR EXAMPLE, IF THE PILOTS THOUGHT “GO FORWARD” THE DRONE WOULD MOVE FORWARD.BRAIN-COMPUTER INTERFACE TECHNOLOGY HAS BEEN AROUND FOR DECADES. USED IN THE MEDICAL FIELD TO HELP THE BLIND, STROKE VICTIMS, AND PARALYSIS. ALTHOUGH THIS IS ONE OF THE FIRST TIMES IT’S BEEN USED TO FLY UAV’S, THE PROFESSOR WHO’S STUDENTS ORGANIZED THE RACE SAYS THEY’RE HOPING OTHER UNIVERSITIES WILL JOIN THEM COME 2017.AT AIRVUZ NEWS, I’M KENDALL MARK.
