The Bingham Canyon Mine, better known as the Kennecott Copper Mine, is located in northern Utah, southwest of Salt Lake City. Opened in 1905, it's produced an incredible 19 million tons of copper, worth over $100 billion based on early 2019 prices. Its excavation area covers about 1900 acres and is visible from the moon. It's currently owned by international mining giant Rio Tinto.
