A Lost World in the Ocean | Socotra

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

Multiple Drone Video of the Week Winner Lucaputzer brings us this excellent drone video from the Indian Ocean island of Socotra.  Part of the nation of Yemen, Socotra lies near the southern entrance to the Gulf of Aden in the Arabian Sea, the northwestern inlet of the world's third-largest ocean.  While it's part of (Asian) Yemen, the island is actually closer to Somalia, and it's considered to be geographically part of Africa.  The island covers an area of about 1.4k square mi. or around 3.6k square km.

BADGES THIS VIDEO HAS EARNED:

Imagine stepping into a world untouched by time. I spent 7 unforgettable days on the remote island of Socotra, Yemen—a place so unique it's often called the 'Galápagos of the Indian Ocean.' With no phone signal, no hotels, and no showers, this was a journey back to nature in its purest form. Camping in tents under star-filled skies, I explored Socotra's surreal landscapes, including its iconic Dragon’s Blood Trees, which exist nowhere else on Earth. Fun fact: Over 30% of Socotra’s plant species are found only on this island, making it one of the most biodiverse places in the world. From towering sand dunes to crystal-clear waters and limestone caves, every moment on Socotra felt like an adventure on another planet. This island isn’t just remote—it’s extraordinary.
