Liguria, Italy by Drone

Check out this stunning drone tour of the Liguria region of Italy, compliments of brand-new AirVuz contributor LevanteDrones.  One of the country's 20 official regions, Liguria lies along the country's northwestern coastline on the Ligurian Sea, an inlet of the Mediterranean.  The video includes footage from across the region, ranging from the great port city of Genoa (the home of Christopher Columbus), the Cinque Terre region in the heart of the Italian Riviera, and more.  

Prepare to be amazed by this drone reel from northern Italy, compliments of contributor and pilot info@coverphoto.it.  It was mostly shot in the Liguria region of Italy, sometimes called the Italian Riviera.  The reel contains a mix of action shots as well as some gorgeous aerials of the Ligurian coastline and boats plying the waters of the Ligurian Sea.  There's also some amazing shots of the coast of Genoa, the great Ligurian capital city and (famously) the birthplace of Christopher Columbus.

Cinque Terra is a an area consisting of five pristine villages on the northern Italian coast in the region of Liguria.  The colorful seaside villages make for what is perhaps the most iconic spot in the whole country.  Top content creator and drone pilot iDrone Aerial created this stunning aerial view of the area, which is characterized by the incredible visual interplay between the colors of the Adriatic Sea, the brilliant looking village rooftops, and the surrounding hills and mountains. 

Take a tour of the great Italian city of Genoa in this excellent video by AirVuz contributor KingdroneVisual.  Shot with a combination of drone and ground cameras, the video will take you around and over the city, which is capital of the Liguria Region and one of Italy's half-dozen largest cities.  The birthplace of Marco Polo and Christopher Columbus, the city-state of Genoa was one of the most powerful players in Europe during much of the Middle Ages, when its empire included territories extended from parts of Spain to Crimea.

Contributor and pilot Posaticla used both ground camera and drone footage to create this memorable virtual tour of Liguria, the area in northern Italy.  With some beautiful editing (including some timelapse sequences), the video will give you a picture of the beauty of this area, oftentimes called the Italian Riviera.  You'll see some of the five towns of the famed Cinque Terre, the brilliant blue waters of the Ligurian Sea, and some of the adventure sports like mountain biking are on offer here.      

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor and pilot DronePilot01 brings us this fantastic sunset drone video from the coast of Italy's Liguria region.  Liguria runs along Italy's northwestern coast, on the Ligurian Sea (an inlet of the Mediterranean Sea).  At the around the :30 mark in the video, there's a great shot of the tip of the peninsula which marks the western side of the Gulf of La Spezia.  At the 1:20 shot, there's a nice "reveal" shot of the village of Le Grazie, which lies on the Gulf of La Spezia itself.

For an epic aerial tour of Italy's Liguria, it's tough to beat this showreel from contributor and drone pilot Dronerditaly.  It shot from across the great region in the northwestern part of the country, along the Ligurian Sea extension of the Mediterranean.  The area is well recognized for the way in which mountains backdrop its famous beaches and harbors.  The video is shot both in the interior mountainous areas and along its famed coastline, all or portions of which are sometimes called the Italian Riviera.

For an aerial overview of Italy's Liguria region, it's hard to beat this drone video by contributor and pilot Dronerditaly.  Liguria occupies the coastal parts of Northwestern Italy on the Ligurian Sea, which is considered part of the Mediterranean.  Its capital is Genoa, which was one of the most important cities of the Renaissance and continues to be the largest port in Italy.  The Ligurian coast is oftentimes referred to as the Italian Riviera, and it begins just to the east of the French Riviera. 

Contributor and pilot Alessio Forlano created this amazing drone's eye view of Castel San Giovanni, a fortress near the Ligurian Sea coast of northern Italy.  It is situated in Finalborgo, a small town in the western part of Italy's Liguria region.  The fortress was built in the 17th century on the ruins of an older structure which had been built a few centuries prior.  The fortress, which had served as a prison for a time, was taken over by the government and restored to its current form in 1960.  

Top contributor and pilot Dronetrip created this beautiful short video of two of the towns in the middle of the famed Cinque Terre region of northern Italy.  Vernazza, which is the next to westernmost of the five, is probably its most widely recognized for its fairy tale like appearance.  And not to be outdone is Corniglia, in the center of the five towns.  Corniglia is easily distinguished by its location atop a promontory accessible by a stairway with 382 steps descending to the Ligurian Sea below.  

Contributor Marco.ghisetti created this brilliant short drone video of Riomaggiore, a famed town on the Italian Riviera.   Built in the 13th century, Riomaggiore is one of the towns of Cinque Terre, a famed stretch of the coastline on the Mediterranean annex known as the Ligurian Sea.  The southern and easternmost of the five towns, the marvelously well-preserved Riomaggiore lies just a short distance west as the crow flies from the larger port city of Spezia, beyond which lies the region of Tuscany.

Contributor Travel and Drones brings us this excellent drone video from the Cinque Terre area on the Italian Riviera in the region of Liguria.  The video opens with a shot of the Chiesa di San Pietro church and the Castello Doria in Porto Veniere, which is actually south of the "five towns" which give the Cineque Terre its name.  Then you'll head to Vernazza, the second-westernmost of the five towns, followed by Riomaggiore, the southeasternmost.  The last two stops are Corniglione and Manorolo, which lie between Varnazza and Riomaggiore.  

AirVuz contributor davidegalloni brings us this excellent drone view from the fabled Cinque Terre, a row of five towns on the Italian Riviera.  The video opens with shots of Monterosso al Mare, the northwesternmost of the towns, and home the only extensive sand beach.  From there you'll head to tiny Manarola, which lies between Cornigia (the middle town) and Riomaggiore (at the southeastern end of the Cinque Terre).  The Cinque Terre is part of the province of La Spezia, the easternmost of the four provinces of the region of Liguriua.  

Balzi Rossi is an area near Ventimiglia on the far western end of Italy's Liguria region, very close to the French border.  Balzi Rossi is known for its seaside caves which have become an important archaeological site.  The site has produced several remains of Cro Magnon people, an anatomically modern group that forms an important link in human evolution.  In this drone video, you'll get a bird's eye look at the area around the Balsi Rossi caves, which sit on the Gulf of Genoa in the Ligurian Sea.

Take in these aerial views of an up-and-coming spot on the Italian Riviera, compliments of contributor Servizicondrone.  He filmed the area around the town of Sestri Levante, which lies on a promontory about an hour's drive southeast of Genoa on the Ligurian Sea.  The town is best known for its two bays, both of which you'll see in the video: the Bay of Tales, which lies on the northern side of the peninsula, and the Bay of Silence, to its south.  The Sestri Levante area is less well-known than the Cinque Terre area to its southeast.  

The Italian city of Genoa was once one of the most powerful entities in Europe.  The city sits on the Ligurian Sea but is otherwise surrounded by the Apennine Mountains.  Genoa's ability to defend itself against invasion through the mountains was critical to maintaining its power as a city-state, and a defensive system was developed over centuries which made Genoa one of the world's most heavily fortified cities.  In this drone video by info@coverphoto.it, you'll get a bird's eye look at some of these defenses.

Here's a great aerial view of two well-known areas of Metropolitan Genoa in northwestern Italy, compliments of contributor Posaticla.  The first is Rapallo, which lies about 25 km (around 15 mi.) southeast of Genoa along the coast, at the base of a small peninsula.  It's considered a national cultural treasure, with many historical sites such as the Castello di Punta Pagana fortress. The second spot is called Genova Nervi, a fishing village-cum-resort town which is situated roughly halfway between Rapallo and central Genoa.  

AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot FPVFlow was picked for the first FPV Pilots to Watch list of 2022 with this incredible FPV city tour from the Italian Riviera.  The video was filmed flying over and around the famed town of Portofino.  Located a bit to the southeast of the city of Genoa, Portofino lies near the tip of a peninsula which extends into the Ligurian Sea (a northern inlet of the Mediterranean).  Over a thousand years old, Portofino has been a destination for the rich and famous since the 19th century.  

Contributor and drone pilot AAME created this beautiful aerial view of Porto Venere, a small municipality on Italy's Ligurian coast.  It's situated in the province of La Spezia, which also includes the more well known towns of Cinque Terra which lie just a bit north.  Porto Venere lies at the southern end of a peninsula, with the Gulf of La Spezia to the east and the Ligurian Sea (part of the Mediterranean) to the west.  The municipality actually consists of three small villages: Fezzano, Le Grazie and Porto Venere.

Take a first person view (FPV) drone tour of a town on the Italian Riviera, compliments of AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot CinematicPier.  The town is called Tellaro, and it's located on the eastern side of the Gulf of La Spezia (an inlet of the Ligurian Sea), a bit to the southeast of the gulf's namesake city.  While Tellaro is not as well-known as the towns of Cinque Terre (which lie a bit to the west), it's been rated as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, and it has long served as a magnet for artists.  

AirVuz contributor LevanteDrones brings us this excellent drone video from a very empty-looking town in northern Italy during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Spring of 2020.  Sarzana is a town and commune in La Spezia, one of the provinces of the Liguria Region along the Ligurian Sea (a part of the Mediterranean).  While Liguria was not as hard-hit by the deadly virus as the regions of Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, and Veneto, by late April the region had recorded over 7,000 confirmed infections and over 1,000 deaths.   

Take a first person view (FPV) drone tour of a stunningly beautiful village the Italian region of Liguria, compliments of AirVuz contributor Luca T.  The village of Tellaro is located on the Gulf of La Spezia (an inlet of the Mediterranean Sea), a short distance southeast of the city of La Spezia.  While it's not as well known as the towns of Cinque Terre (which lie on the western side of the peninsula that defines the western boundary of the gulf, Tellaro regularly up in various surveys as one of the most beautiful towns in Italy.  

Check out these excellent drone views of a well-known church on the Italian Riviera, compliments of AirVuz contributor BDurren67.  The Church of San Pietro is located on a rocky spur in the town of Portovenere, at the western entrance into the Gulf of La Spezia.  It's less than an hour's drive southeast of the Cinque Terre towns in the region of Liguria.  The church is part of a small complex which originally dates to the 5th century AD, with the main structure dating to the 13th century during the period of Genoese rule.  

Take a tour of the city of Imperia, Italy by FPV drone in this excellent video by AirVuz contributor 2RAW Aerials.  The city is located on the Ligurian Sea (an inlet of the Mediterranean Sea) on the western end of the Italian Riviera, not far from the French border.  The video opens with a dramatic shot skimming over the city's harbor (Porto Oneglia), through a gap between two buildings, and towards the town center.  Other highlights include some epic shots of the city's yachting scene, another epic "gap" shot at 1:00, and more.  

Cruise along the waters of Italy's Ligurian Sea in this excellent first person view (FPV) piece by AirVuz contributor WAKI FPV.  The video was filmed near the commune of Finale Ligure, on the Gulf of Genoa in the province of Savona.  The gulf is considered an inlet of the Ligurian Sea, itself a large inlet of the Mediterranean Sea.  This area is part of the Italian Riviera, which (depending on definition) covers all or most of the coast of the region of Liguria.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in June, 2021. 

Explore a well-known town on the Italian Riviera by first person view (FPV) drone in this excellent video by AirVuz contributor pilot FauxRoche.  The town of Manarola is one of the famous Cinque Terre, a strong of five seaside villages along the Ligurian Sea coast of the province of La Spezia, the easternmost of the provinces of the region of Liguria in the northwestern part of the country.  It's believed that Manarola is the oldest of the Cinque Terre towns; the conerstone of its main church dates to the first part of the 14th century.  

Check out this beautiful drone video of a seaside town in northern Italy, compliments of Drone_biker. It's called Sanremo, and it's on far western side of the Ligurian coast in the province of Imperia.  Part of the Italian Riviera, it's just a few km/mi. from the border with France.  A town of about 50k population, it's probably best known as the site of the annual Sanremo Music Festival, one of the most popular music festivals in Europe and a sort of musical equivalent of the Cannes Film Festival.  

Check out these stunning drone views from a town on the Italian Riviera, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot LevanteDrones.  The video was shot over the town of Sestri Levante, which lies on the Ligurian Sea, roughly halfway between the cities of Genoa (to its northwest) and La Spezia (to its southeast).  Not quite as well-known as Portofino or the towns of Cinque Terre, Sestri Levante is nonetheless emerging as one of the more popular destinations of the Riviera, which extends from the French border to La Spezia.  

Here's a rare aerial look at a tiny island off the coast of Italy's Ligurian Coast, compliments of contributor and pilot Tim K.  It's called Bergeggi, and it sits in the Ligurian Sea just offshore from a town of the same name.  The island is just a few acres - .1 square km, or about .03 square miles.  Nevertheless, it's home to the ruins of a monastery which was built here in the 10th century AD.  The island and adjacent coastline are part of Savona, one of the four provinces of the official region of Liguria.

Get a unique perspective of a town on the fabled Italian Riviera, compliments of first person view (FPV) drone pilot CataFpv.  He used an FPV mini-drone to film the town of Porto Venere, which is situated at the southern end of the peninsula that forms the western side of the Bay of Spezia, just south of the Cinque Terre towns.  The highlight of the video is a single-shot sequence which takes you over the city's two most famous landmarks: the Andrea Doria Castle overlooking the Bay of Poets and the church of San Pietro just below it.  

Take a flight through beautiful Savona, Italy in this first person view (FPV) run by AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot frankcitro. Savona is a port city in the Liguria region of northwestern Italy, and is well is known for its mountain views overlooking the Ligurian Sea. Those mountain and seaside views are the focus of this flight. He’ll open with shots running up and diving down the mountains, then close things out with a coastal flight. This was an FPV Pilots to Watch video in January of 2019. 

Contributor Mauro76Genova created this beautiful aerial view of Santa Margerita, a well known town on the Italian Riviera.  It's located less than an hour's drive east of the Ligurian capital of Genoa.  Situated on the same peninsula as Portofino, roughly midway between that famed seaside village and the larger city of Rapallo.  A long-established fishing town, it's now home a much wider variety of watercraft, including recreational varieties ranging from small speedboats to giant yachts.  

Contributor Tibaltlavega created this stunning drone video of the Ligurian coast in northern Italy.  It opens with a spectacular shot of Portofino, perhaps the most glamorous spot on the Italian Riviera.  Portofino sits at the tip of a small peninsula jutting into the Ligurian sea, just a bit to the east of the Ligurian capital Genoa.  It's been extremely fashionable since it inspired the 1922 bestselling novel The Enchanted April by Elizabeth Arnim, which was subsequently adapted as a screenplay in the 1990's.
