Drone Videos of Quito

AirVuz contributor ContemporAd brings us this excellent drone video of one of the most famous statues in South America.  It's called the Virgin of El Panecillo, and it's located atop its namesake hill in the heart of the Ecuadorean capital city.  Standing 41 meters (about 135 ft.), it's one of the continent's tallest statue and is also the world's tallest statues made of aluminum.  Completed in the 1970's, it's a (much) larger replica of a wooden structure by Bernardo de Legarda which dates to the first half of the 18th century.  

While Quito is the capital of Ecuador, it is actually its second largest city after Guayaquil.  The city is at a high altitude - at 2.9k meters above sea level (9.3k ft) the only national capital at a higher altitude is La Paz in neighboring Bolivia.   It's also one of the best-preserved cities on the continent, the center of which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.  Creator thedroneexperience mounted an X5 camera to his DJI Inspire 2 drone to create this amazing aerial tour of the great city.

AirVuz contributor andpilot Juanca created this beautiful drone video of the Ecuadorean capital Quito.  Surrounded by immense volcanoes, Quito itself lies at an altitude of almost 3k meters above sea level (over 9k ft.), making it the second highest capital city in the world after Bolivia's La Paz.  Founded in the 16th century by Spanish conquistadores, Quito is considered the best-preserved of the major South American colonial cities, and its city center has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.  

Content creator and pilot Adsgus used a DJI Phantom 4 Professional drone to create this amazing aerial reel of Quito, the great capital of Ecuador in South America.  The video features amazing aerial footage of the city, located in the north central part of the country in the shadow of the Pichincha volcano, part of the Andes mountain range.  Ecuador has one of the highest elevations of any major city, over 3 km (nearly 2 mi) above sea level.  Only La Paz (the capital of neighboring Bolivia) is higher.  

For reasons which were not initially clear, by early April of 2020 Ecuador had become the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic in South America.   The vast majority of the confirmed cases and deaths at that point had occurred in Guayaquil, the country's commercial capital and largest city.  Nevertheless, by mid-March the entire country was under a virtual quarantine.  This led to eerie scenes like what you'll see in this drone video by Ecu Drone: the national capital Quito in a state of near-shutdown.  

One of the most prominent sights in Ecuador's "sky high" capital city of Quito is the twin-spired Basilica del Voto Nacional.  Situated in the city's old town, the cathedral was built in the late 1800's to commemorate Ecuador's adherence to the Roman Catholic Sacred Heart Devotion.  Content creator and pilot Drones_Creativity_ec created this epic drone video of this great cultural landmark, the largest Neo-Gothic basilica in the Western Hemisphere and one of the world's most well known churches.

Pichincha is a volcano in the South American country of Ecuador.  Still active, Pinchincha is one of the volcanoes which surrounds the capital city of Quito.  The stratovolcano has two peaks: Guagua Pichincha and Ruku Pichincha. What you'll see here in this drone video is Guagua Pichincha, which translates roughly too "small" or "baby".  It's actually the taller of the two peaks though, with a maximum elevation of almost 4.8k meters above sea level (around 15.7k ft.) - roughly 100 meters (300 ft.) taller than its sister peak.  

Contributor and pilot Rufo_Adventure created an amazing drone video of Ecuador's Cotopaxi Volcano, one of the highest volcanoes in the world.  Part of the Andes, the peak of the mountain stands at 5.9k meters (19.3k ft) above sea level, making it the second highest peak in Ecuador after Mt. Chimborazo.  It's also one of the most active, with about 50 known eruptions in the past 250 years, most recently in 2016.  The video was taken as part of an  expedition that reached the south summit of the mountain, which lies just to the south of Quito.
