The morning grind in Denver

armando_ma...

Contributor armando_martinez created this beautiful drone video of Denver, Colorado on a typically bright and sunny morning.  Nicknamed the Mile High City because of its altitude, Denver now has a metropolitan population of around 3 million, making it (by a considerable margin) the largest city in the entire Rocky Mountain region.  It is situated near the base of the range in northeastern Colorado, where the Great Plains transition to the alpine environment of America's largest mountain range.

Take in these excellent aerial views of downtown Denver, Colorado, compliments of brand-new AirVuz contributor and pilot trdmrk_drone.  In the opening shot, you'll fly north on Sherman Street towards the Colorado State Capitol, which lies on the southeastern outskirts of downtown.  Starting at about the 1:00 mark, you'll get a nice westward-facing view of the skyline including its three tallest buildings - left to right, Wells Fargo Plaza, Republic Plaza, and 1801 California Street, followed by a northward-facing shot of the same.

Armando_martinez brings us this phenomenal aerial tour of Denver, Colorado as the unofficial capital of the USA's Rocky Mountain Region was under community quarantine during the Covid-19 pandemic.  The video shows the city's empty streets, the empty streets of Coors Field (home of the Colorado Rockies Major League Baseball team), and wraps with a great shot of the Union Station complex.  Colorado was one of the USA's early Covid-19 "hotspots", although by late April social distancing measures had slowed the spread of the virus.

First person view pilot (FPV) nikofilmz used a cinewhoop style drone to create this remarkable video of a protest in downtown Denver, Colorado.  The peaceful event was one of hundreds which erupted across the USA following the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers of Minneapolis, Minnesota on Memorial Day of 2020.  The gruesome death of the unarmed Black man was captured by a bystander on video, triggering worldwide outrage at a pattern of police brutality directed at African Americans and other minorities across the country.

Empower Field at Mile High is the latest name for the home field of the Denver Broncos of the National Football League.  Located just southwest of downtown, the 76k seat stadium opened in 2001.  It's gone under several different names, most of which were variations on the name of the Broncos' first home field: Mile High Stadium, in reference to the city's elevation of over 5k ft. (around 1.6k meters) above sea level.  Check out the home of the 3x Super Bowl champions from above in this drone video by Blaze.

Somewhat unusually amongst US states, Colorado's capital is also its largest city: Denver.  The epicenter of the state government is the Colorado State Capitol, which houses the state's General Assembly as well as the offices of Governor and Lieutenant Governor.  The distinctive white stone, gold-domed building is situated in the Capital Hill district, southeast of the downtown core.  Contributor Blaze created this excellent drone video of the historic building, which was constructed in 1894.

Denver, Colorado became a major city in the late 1800's as a rail junction.  Where this all came together was Union Station, which became one of the most important rail facilities in the Western USA.  Beginning in the early 2000's, a series of redevelopment projects turned the station into a modern commuter transportation hub, transforming the look of the entire district, just northwest of the core downtown.  You can see the results of this massive urban renewal project in this drone video by Blaze.
