Take inthese absolutely stunning aerial views of Alaska, compliments of former Drone Video of the Week Finalist alaska42.  Returning to AirVuz after a two year hiatus, this talented content creator has put together some of his best drone footage from 2021.  The video opens with a brilliant Fall Colors shot, followed by a flyover of some sled dogs and then a mountain resort.  At the :15 mark, there's an epic view of a vast glacier.  Other shots feature northern lights, massive snow-covered forests and mountains, and more.   

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor nirmitchetwani brings us this magnificent DVOW nominated video of Alaska.  Shot during the wintertime in temperatures as low as 30 degrees below zero Celsius (minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit), the video will take you over the stunning landscapes of the USA's 49th state.  You'll fly over snow-covered forests and frozen lakes, heading into the mountains which cover much of the Last Frontier.   Alaska covers a land area of almost 1.5 million square km (around 572k square mi.), twice the size of Texas.

Southeastern Alaska is home to some of the finest natural scenery in North America.  The region sits well south of the Alaskan "mainland", between the Canadian province of British Columbia and the Pacific Ocean.  Check out some of the visual highlights of this magical land in this excellent piece by DVOW Finalist Drone_Alaska.  The video features footage of the following locations: Wrangell Island, Petersburg, the Stikine River, Thomas Bay, LeConte Glacier, Baird Glacier, Shakes Glacier, Anita Bay, Etolin Island, and Liesnoi Island. 

Explore the snow-covered expanses of Alaska with this fantastic first person view (FPV) drone travel video by top AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot Nonexistent Jay.  The video opens with a run down a mountain ridge, followed by a fly-by which took the travelers into the wilderness.  Next you'll buzz a glacier, then skim the treetops flying through a forest.  Further on in the piece, you'll fly through snow-tunnels and chase a pack of sled dogs.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in March of 2023.  

AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Jake Sloan used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 to create this beautiful aerial tour of Seward, a town in southern Alaska.  Named after the USA Secretary of State who purchased the territory that became Alaska from Russia just after the American Civil War, the town is located on Resurrection Bay, a fjord on the Gulf of Alaska formed in part by the Kenai Peninsula.  The town lies about 200 km (around 120 mi.) south of Anchorage, the largest city in the USA's 49th state.  It marks the southern end of the Alaska Railroad.  

If you didn't think that mountain biking and glaciers went together then you need to check out this DVOW Finalist video by contributor Jake Sloan.  Using a DJI Mavic Pro 2 supplemented with ground camera footage, he recorded an epic ride using fat tire mountain bikes over Alaska's Portage Glacier.  The glacier lies on the Kenai Peninsula, which juts out from the state's southern coastline near Anchorage.  The footage of three friends racing along what looks like the world's biggest ice skating rink is not to be missed. 

Using a DJI Mavic 2 Pro, alaska42 shows us the amazing views he sees right in his own backyard - Wasilla, Alaska. Located northeast of Anchorage, it is the sixth-largest city in the USA's 49th state. The town has recent political currency; former Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin served as Mayor here before becoming Governor. The area is absolutely majestic with its fall colors, frozen rivers, and snow-capped mountains that are featured throughout this Drone Video of the Week nominee. 

While Alaska is usually associated with winter, the gigantic USA state has areas in its southern portions with much more temperate climates and millions of deciduous (leaf-bearing) trees.  In these areas, while Fall is a relatively short period between a short summer and a long winter, the landscape turns to brilliant colors in this period.  Content creator and drone pilot Alaska42 gives us a marvelous bird's eye view of an Alaskan Fall in this amazing drone video, filmed with a DJI Mavic Pro.

Alaska is massive - it would be amongst the world's top 20 countries in land area if it were an independent nation rather than the USA's 49th state.  And given the enormous north-south distance covered by the state, there are huge climatic variations, with the northern parts above the Arctic Circle and the southern portions having a climate similar to British Columbia in western Canada.  In this marvelous video, top AirVuz contributor and pilot CH Drone treats us to a 4k aerial tour of the Last Frontier.  

Denali National Park is one of the natural treasures of Alaska, the USA's giant 49th state.   The centerpiece of the park is Mt. Denali (formerly known as Mt. McKinley), which has a summit elevation of 6.2k meters above sea level (20.3k ft.) and is the highest peak in North America.  The park, established in 1980, covers an area of 24.4k square km (almost 9.4k square mi.), larger than the state of New Jersey.  Check out the magnificent expanse of Alaskan wilderness from above in this excellent drone video by AirVuz contributor FreD ...///....

In this video, you'll get a bird's eye view of portions of the famed Inside Passage of Alaska, compliments of contributor Drone Alaska.  The Inside Passage is a route which begins around Olympia, Washington and extends many hundreds of km/miles to the northwest through the thousands of islands which line the west coast of Alaska and British Columbia.  It's popular not only with cruise ships but also other types of ships who use it to avoid the often harsh weather conditions of the open Pacific to the west. 

Alaska's sea life can be seen from above in this terrific drone video by contributor FreD...///....  He was able to aerially film sea lions, salmon, and seagulls in the Valdez Arm of Prince William Sound, on the southern coast of the state.  This area has largely recovered from one of history's worst environmental disasters: the oil spill which resulted when the oil tanker Exxon Valdez hit a reef in March, 1989 and spilled over a quarter million barrels of crude oil into the pristine waters of the Sound.

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor mikereidphotography brings us this fantastic drone video from the town of Petersburg, Alaska.  Petersburg is situated near the northern end of Mitkof Island, which is part of the Alexander Archipelago that extends south from the Alaskan mainland and runs parallel to the coast of Canada's British Columbia province.  The video was shot with an Autel Evo Pro 2 drone over the Wrangell Narrows, the waterway which separates Mitkof Island from the larger Kupreanof Island to its west. 

Upper Dewey Lake sits near the town of Skagway, Alaska, on the Alaska Panhandle.  Near the southwest corner of the state, the landscape is more like the Pacific Northwest of the USA or Canada's British Columbia than the Arctic environment which characterizes the northern part of the USA's 49th state.  AirVuz contributor and pilot Daniel Molina hiked the lake with his DJI Phantom 4 Professional drone to create this mesmerizing aerial tour of a pristine mountain lake surrounded by snow covered peaks. 

Check out Alaska's Tongass National Forest in this fantastic piece by AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Drone_Alaska. At 16.7 million acres, the Tongass National Forest is the largest national forest in the United States. Located in the southeastern part of the USA's 49th state, the forest encompasses the islands of the Alexander Archipelago, many fjords and glaciers, and the Coast Mountains. The area is a Pacific temperate rain forest WWF ecoregion with many endangered flora and fauna. 

The Alaska Railroad is the sole operating railroad in this gigantic state of Alaska, the USA's 49th state.  It is a Class II railroad which runs about 740 km (470 mi) from the southern part of the state up to Fairbanks in the north.  Due to the difficulty of railroad construction in the Arctic and near-Arctic conditions, it is the only rail service in the USA to carry passenger and freight trains on the same system.  Contributor Alaska42 used a drone to get an aerial view of a train running through the winter landscape.  

Top AirVuz contributor and pilot alaska42 created this beautiful aerial view of Alaska's Matanuska Glacier, the largest glacier in the USA which can be accessed by car.  Running about 43 km long (27 mi.) by a little over 6 km wide (around 4 mi.), it's located about 160 km (around 100 mi.) northeast of Anchorage, in the southeastern part of the state.  The glacier's endpoint is the Matanuska River, which ultimately drains into the Gulf of Alaska.  The glacier is accessible to the public via the Matanuska Glacier State Recreation Site.

Aialik Glacier drains the Harding Icefield in the Kenai Peninsula Borough of southern Alaska.  The great frozen formation is characterized by intricate repeating patterns which develop in the mighty ice sheet as it slowly slides into Aialik Bay.  Top contributor CH Drone used a drone to fly over this myterious looking ice and snow formation.  The result is an incredible bird's eye view of one of Alaska's most distinguishing physical features, and truly a sight to behold from an aerial perspective.

While Alaska was purchased by the United States from Russia in 1867 (just after the US Civil War), it was a series of gold strikes beginning in the 1890's that put the territory on a path towards statehood.  In this video, contributor gives us a bird's eye view of Independence Mine, which lies north of the Matanuska River upstream of its discharge at Anchorage.  The mine is part of Independence Mine State Park, which commemorates Alaska's Gold Rush.  The great rush peaked in 1897-98 and was more or less over by about 1903.  

Wrangell is a remote town in southeastern Alaska with a population of around 2,300.  It is situated on the northern end of Wrangell Island,  one of the larger islands amongst the 1,000+ that make up the Alexander Archipelago.  The town and island of Wrangell were initially populated by the Tlingit, a native people who settled into the archipelago thousands of years ago. In this 4K video by AirVuz contributor and pilot Drone Alaska, you'll get a bird's eye view of this beautiful part of America's 49th state.

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot Gab707 can make fair claim to having invented the genre of FPV mountain surfing videos, having been one of the first to conquer the mighty Alps with an FPV mini-drone.  In this magnificent video, he takes us over a very different set of mountains - the Tordrillo Mountains in Alaska.  With peak elevations of around 11.4k ft. above sea level (around 3.5k meters), they are visible on a clear day from Anchorage.  This video made the FPV Pilots to Watch list in April, 2021. 

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot NonexistentJay brings us this fantastic travel FPV video from Alaska.  He filmed the piece in the course of a helicopter tour of Lake George, which is the USA's largest glacier-dammed lake.  While the lake is only about 45 mi. (a little over 70 km) east of Anchorage, it's not accessible by road.  The area has been designated as a National Natural Landscape.  This video was picked as a Finalist for the Drone Video of the Week in mid-March of 2022.  

AirVuz contributor and pilot Alaska42 was using a drone to film the Alaska State Ferry when he was "interrupted" by some mammalian visitors - a small group of humpback whales.  The Alaskan coast is the seasonal home for about 10,000 of these graceful creatures every year, who breed in Hawaii during the winter months and return here in the spring.  Humpback whales can be as long as 18-20 meters (about 60 ft.) and can weigh as much as 40 tons.  These waters also host other whale species, including orca's.

Known as one of the most stunning and welcoming destinations in the region when the weather is cooperating (like in this video), it can be quite dangerous with incredibly high winds and beating rain during storms. Check out these spectacular drone views from southern Alaska, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot nayyar2006.  The video was shot in the area of Thompson, Pass, which lies in the Chugach Mountains.  These are some of the snowiest lands in North America; average annual snowfall is around 500 inches (around 13 m) and it's received as much as double that.  Much of the area is covered by the Chugach National Forest, which lies to the north of the Kenai Peninsula and the Cook Inlet and extends east to Prince William Sound.  

Check out this stunning drone video of the area around Alaska's Mt. Denali, compliments of contributor Valverde87.  Using a DJI Mavic Pro drone, the video was shot at the Denali Overlook Inn near Talkeetna on the Summer Solstice.  Mt. Denali, formerly known as Mt. McKinley, is the highest peak of North America.  It has a peak elevation of almost 6.2k meters (about 20.3k ft.).  Watch the video and you'll get some glimpses of the great mountain as well as its stunningly beautiful surroundings. 

Top AirVuz contributor mikereidphotography earned a spot as a Drone Video of the Week Finalist for this excellent drone video of a ferry departing a small port in Alaska.  Filmed with a DJI Mavic Pro 3, the video captures the ferry heading into Frederick Sound, a body of water that runs through the islands of the Alexander Archipelago at the southern end of Alaska's territory along the Pacific Ocean.  The ferries here are part of the Alaska Marine Highway, a ferry service operated by the state of Alaska.  

The Iditarod  is an annual long dog sled race that is run in early March from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska.  Mushers and their 14 dogs cover the 1.5k kilometer (938-mi.) span in an average of 8-15 days. The race began in 1973 and is thought to honor the group of mushers and dogs who saved the city of Nome when a diphtheria epidemic threatened the city in 1925 (an event which was made famous in the film “Balto”). In this fantastic piece, AirVuz contributor nayyar2006 continues his series of drone videos from southern Alaska.  The video was shot in the Chugach Mountains, a range which covers an area about 250 mi. long (around 400 km) and around 60 mi. wide (about 100 km).  Much of the area is covered by the Chugach National Forest, which lies to the north of the Kenai Peninsula and the Cook Inlet and extends east to Prince William Sound. With peaks up to about 13.1k ft. above sea level (around 4k m), these are some of the world's snowiest lands. 

Check out this fantastic drone video of one of Alaska's largest glaciers, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot alaska42.  It's called the Matanuska Glacier, and it's located in the southern part of the state, about 100 mi. (160 km) northeast of Anchorage.  The largest glacier of the USA which is accessible by car, the Manatuska is about 27 mi. long (around 43 km) by about four mi. wide (around 6.5 km).  The glacier feeds its namesake river, which flows for about 75 mi. (about 120 km) before discharging into the Cook Inlet.  

Located in the oyster haven Cook Inlet, Girdwood is a tourist town that is surrounded by seven glaciers that feed into a number of creeks and converge into its valley.  Just 35 miles outside of downtown Anchorage, Alaska it is technically a municipality of Anchorage. Its easy accessibility makes it the perfect place for a quick first-person view (FPV) rip through the glacial paradise, as you can see thanks to this excellent video by the talented AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot Alaskatraz FPV. 

Alaska is known as the last frontier. The U.S. state is the farthest northwest and is separated by Asia by only the Bering Strait. Drone Alaska does a fabulous job capturing the beauty that can be found everywhere in southeast Alaska. He’ll feature snow-capped mountains, plenty of “locals” aka seals, birds, and massive whales, incredible ocean views, and more. Specific locations include the small cities of Wrangell and Petersburg and the Stikine River watershed and Shakes Glacier, located in Tongass National Forest.

This thirty-second hyper-lapse is absolutely stunning. It features the Alaskan countryside in the deep of winter and was shot by AirVuz contributor and pilot alaska42. A hyper-lapse is a like a time-lapse, where a camera is taking photos at regular intervals for a set period of time to create a sense of movement. With a hyper-lapse, you add a movement of the camera, furthering along the photographer’s goals. You’ll see skiers traveling along a river as the sun shines behind the mountains. 

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot CragLord earned a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in September of 2024 with this fantastic FPV mountain surfing video from Alaska.  The video was filmed around Reed Lakes, a pair of alpine lakes in the Talkeetna Mountains, a bit to the northeast of Anchorage in the southern part of the state.  The lakes sit at an altitude of about 4.2k ft. above sea level (about 1.3k m) and are surrounded by mountain peaks up to 8.8k ft. (2.7k m) in altitude.  

Contributor LightAndDrawing created this aerial view of one of the 20th century's great technical feats: the Alaska Pipeline.  The pipeline runs almost 1.3k km (about 800 miles) from Prudhoe Bay in the far northern part of the state to the Port of Valdez, where the oil is loaded onto giant ocean-going tankers.  Triggered by the first OPEC oil crisis of the early 1970's, the pipeline allowed the large-scale development of the North Slope resource, one of the great finds of the 20th century.
