Spain's Asturias and Cantabria Regions by Drone

In this video, contributor Danielcarboneras brings us a stunning aerial look at Asturias, a semi-autonomous region in the heart of northwestern Spain.  Situated between the regions of Galicia to its west and Cantabria to its east, Asturias is dominated by a long Atlantic coastline on the Bay of Biscay.  The region, which has a hilly interior, has had human activity dating to pre-historic times, and was conquered by the Romans in the first century BC.  The video was shot with a DJI Phantom 4 Pro.

He used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 Zoom to create this compelling aerial perspective of this semi-autonomous region, which occupies a section of the Bay of Biscay coast in the northwestern part of the country, between the region of Asturias to the west and Basque Country to the east.  The video features footage from the following locations: Picos de Europa, San Vicente de la Barquera, Guriezo, Comillas,and more.  

Cantabria is a single-province semi-autonomous region of northwestern Spain.  It is situated on the Bay of Biscay (which is considered to be part of the Atlantic Ocean), between the province of Asturias to its west and the Basque Autonomous Community to its east.  It features spectacular rocky coastlines on either side of its capital city Santander, which lies in the center of the coast.  Contributor Danielcarboneras used a DJI Phantom 4 drone to create this mesmerizing aerial view of this Spanish Atlantic province.  

Spain's Somiedo Natural Park is one of the treasures of the region of Asturias in the northwestern part of the country.  In this outstanding travel video by former Drone Video of the Week Winner Migo-Studios, you'll get an aerial tour of the park, which was established in 1988.  It's set in the Cantabrian Mountains, a chain of peaks which runs parallel to and a short distance south of the coastline along the Bay of Biscay.  Declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2000, the park covers over 150 square mi. (around 390 square km).  

Contributor Jannis & Carlotta combined drone and ground camera footage to create this marvelous mini-tour of Asturias, a province of northwestern Spain.  Like much of the region, Asturias has a spectacular rocky coastline along the Bay of Biscay, backed up by equally spectacular mountains running parallel to the coastline.  It features epic bird's eye view of some of these mountains covered in fog, shots of the province's quaint port towns and amazing rock formations along the Biscay coast.

Check out this beautiful drone video from the coastline of Northwestern Spain, compliments of contributor chuknano.  It was shot in the region of Asturias, which is situated to the east of Galicia and to the west of Cantabria, on the Bay of Biscay (a large inlet of the Atlantic Ocean).  Spain's Bay of Biscay coastline is known for its spectacular cliffs and offshore rock formations, a product of the unique geology of the region.  The video was shot with a DJI Phantom 4 Professional drone.  

The long coastline of Spain's Asturias region on the Bay of Biscay is called Costa Verde, and it features some of the most spectacular rugged beach scenery in the world.  In this drone video by content creator NeXt_Lz, you'll get a bird's eye view of the area around La Franca.  Playa La Franca, as it's known, is one of the most beautiful of these beaches. It's situated near the eastern end of the Asturias coastline, just west of the border with the neighboring semi-autonomous region of Cantabria.  

Check out this gorgeous drone video from a wedding in Northwestern Spain, compliments of contributor GalendeFotografia.  It was filmed at the Beach of Silence (Playa del Silencio), a beach along the famed Costa Verde, a stretch of coastline along the Bay of Biscay in the region of Asturias.  It's near the town of Cudillero, which is located about midway along the Asturias coastline.  The beaches here are backed by steep cliffs and offer true seclusion, a magical spot for the betrothed to take their vows.

Costa Quebrada is a stretch of coastline on the Bay of Biscay in Spain's Cantabria region.  Like so much of Spain's Biscay coastline, Costa Quebrada is home to some of the most distinctive-looking coastal geology on the planet.   It's not precisely defined but it's basically the area on the north side of the peninsula on which the city of Santander sits, more or less due west of the regional capital.  Check out this spectacular stretch of coastline from above in this drone video by contributor charlie.  

Top contributor Santiago brings us this stunning drone video from the northwestern coast of Spain.  The video was filmed over and around Arnía Beach, which lies on the Bay of Biscay in the semi-autonomous community of Cantabria, just west of the Cantabrian capital city of Santander.  Like many of the beaches on Bay of Biscay, Arnía Beach is known for its stunning cliff backdrops and magnificent offshore rock formations, both of which are functions of the unusual geological conditions which have shaped this stretch of the Spanish coast.   

Take an aerial tour of the landscapes of Spain's northwestern Cantabria region in this excellent drone video by NeXt_Lz.  Filmed with a DJI Phantom 4, the video will take you over the mountainous interior of this region, which sits between the region of Asturias to the west and the Basque region to its east.  Like its two neighboring regions, Cantabria features a rocky coastline interspersed with seculuded beaches, and a series or hills and mountains which run parallel and just south of the coast.  

See historic and beautiful Trasmiera in this drone video by pilot mikelra. A comarca of Cantabria, Spain, Trasmiera is located east of the Meira River and reaches to the bays of Santander and Santoña, occupying most of the eastern seaboard of Cantabria. Cantabria itself is an autonomous region on the north coast of Spain on the Bay of Biscay. Trasmiera, Cantabria’s coastline is known for its cliffs and incredible beaches with rolling hills inland, as seen throughout this 4K video. 

Take in these beautiful drone's eye views of a town on the northwestern coast of Spain, compliments of content creator and pilot siemo.  The municipality of Cudillero is situated on the Bay of Biscay in the Asturias region.  According to local legend, the town was founded by Vikings in the Middle Ages.  Cudillero sits on the Way of St. James, an important historical pilgrimage route that drew in travelers from all over Europe headed for Santiago de Compostela, capital of the neighboring Spanish region of Galicia.

Comillas is a town on the Bay of Biscay in Northwestern Spain.  It's part of the semi-autonmous region of Cantabria, which is situated between Asturias to the west and Basque Country to the east.  During much of the 19th century, the Spanish royalty and much of its nobility would spend their summers here, making it one of the most fashionable beach destinations in Europe.  Seen here in this drone video by MikelRa, the town has a beautiful backdrop of the Cantabrian Mountains, which run roughly parallel to the coastline.

Top contributor and pilot Karl Veca put together this wonderful drone video from Spain's storied Cantabria region.  Cantabria is both a semi-autonomous region and a province in the northwestern part of Spain, between the Asturias and Basque Country regions.  Cantabria features a stunning coastline along the Bay of Biscay with a chain of mountains running just south of the coast.  The region is known for its distinctive-looking coastal cliffs and rock formations, as well as the lush greenery of the Cantabria Mountains.  

The Picos de Europa is a small mountain range in northern Spain, at the boundary of the Cantabria, Asturas, and Castile and León regions.  They are part of the Cantabrian Mountains, chain which runmore or less parallel to the Bay of Biscay, between the Pyrenees and the Galician Mountains.   Seen here in this drone video by contributor wdejager, the Picos are so named because they were often the first sight of Europe for ships coming from the Americas.  Their highest peak is Torre de Cerredo at 2.65k meters above sea level (8.7k ft.).  

In honor of Spain's Asturias Day (September 8), contributor alpha drones brings us this excellent drone video from this culturally distinctive region.  The single-province region was the core of the Kingdom of Asturias which ruled over much of what is now northwestern Spain during the Middle Ages.  The video features footage from across the region, including its rocky coastline on the Cantabrian Sea (the southern part of the Bay of Biscay), its coastal mountain range, and landmarks such as the Universidad Laboral de Gijón building.    

Check out these stunning drone views from the coast of the Asturias region in northwestern Spain, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot Santiago.  The video was filmed over a beach area in the municipality of Pendueles, just east of the town of Llanes.  This is about the halfway point of Spain's Bay of Biscay coastline, which runs on a roughly east-west axis from Cape Ortegal in the Galicia region to the west to the French border just beyond the Basque city of San Sebastian in the east.  

Check out this stunning 4k drone footage of a well-known beach in Northwestern Spain, compliments of mikelra.  It's called Playa de Sonabia, and it's located in the eastern part of the Cantabria region, near the border with the neighboring Basque Country region.  It's the type of beach for which Spain's Bay of Biscayne is famous: secluded spots created by the rocky coastline and other unusual geological features of the land here, including some of the world's most unusual-looking rock formations.    

Check out this stunning drone video of a beach on the northwestern coast of Spain, compliments of top AirVuz contributor Santiago.  It's called San Antolín Beach (Playa del San Antolín), and it's located near the town of Llanes in Asturias, a region which lies along the country's Bay of Biscay coastline and extends some distance southward into the interior.  Like most of the beaches on the country's Bay of Biscay coastline, San Antolín Beach is backdropped by steep hills and cliffs which lend a feeling of seclusion.  

Check out these drone videos from the legendary coast of Cantabria in northwestern Spain, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot lonchi campa.  The video was filmed along the Bay of Biscay coastline a bit to the west of the Saja River, which roughly bisects the region.  The video features footage of the beaches Playa de los Locos and Playa de Tagle in the town of Suances as well as the Playa de Santa Justa in the town of Ubiarco, a bit to the west.  The video was filmed with a DJI Mavic Air 2 drone.  

AirVuz contributor and drone pilot MikelRa brings us this excellent aerial view of Spain's Cantabrian coastline.  The video was filmed around thecomarca (district) of Trasmiera, which covers much of the eastern part of Cantabria.  Like much of Spain's northwestern coastline along the Bay of Biscay, the area is marked by spectacular cliffs and impressive offshore rock formations.  The unique geology here is a function of the manner in which the bay was formed during the Cretaceous period, 145 to 66 million years ago.  

One of the things which make Spain's northwestern regions of Asturias and Cantabria so beautiful is the rapid transition between the coast and the interior mountains.  In this drone video by AirVuz contributor and pilot charlie, you'll get an aerial view of a trail that runs between the villages of  Urdón and Tresviso in the eastern part of Asturias, near the border with Cantabria.  Set in the Picos Mountains, the alpine scenery here is just a few km/mi from the coastline on the Bay of Biscay.

Check out this fantastic drone video of a group of lakes in the mountains of northwestern Spain, compliments of contributor alpha drones.  The five Salienca Lakes - Calabazosa, Cerveriz, Almagrera, de la Cueva, and del Valle - are all located within the Somiedo Natural Park.  The area is part of the municipality of Somiedo in the Asturias region, a bit to the southwest of the regional capital city of Oviedo.  Guarded by fairy princesses according to local legend, the lakes were declared a natural monument under Spanish law in 2003. 

Cantabria, a region of northwestern Spain, is known for its stunning coastline along the Bay of Biscay.  Content creator and pilot Next_LZ created this stunning drone video of the area around Liencres, which lies to the west of the Cantabrian capital of Santander, roughly in the middle of the Biscay coastline.  Filmed with a DJI Phantom 4 drone, the video captures the beauty of the cliffs and the gentle surf of this amazing region, home to some of the most famous beaches on the Iberian Peninsula.

Top AirVuz contributor Santiago brings us this excellent 60 second one-shot drone video from the coastline of northwestern Spain.  The video was shot over the beach near the town of Pechón in the official region of Cantabria, which is situated along the Bay of Biscay (and extending some distance inland) between the Basque Country region to the east and Asturias to the west.  Pechón lies between two rivers - the Deva to the west (which also marks the border with Asturias) and the Nansa River to the east.    

Contributor NeXt_Lz used a DJI Phantom 4 to aerially film some spectacular scenery near the Bay of Santander in the Cantabria region of Northwestern Spain.  The Bay, on the north shore of which sits the regional capital city of Santander, is an inlet of the Bay of Biscay.  The video features some excellent footage of Mouro, a tiny lighthouse-topped island that made world headlines in 2014 when someone photographed a giant wave crashing over it.   The island is uninhabited and the lighthouse automated.  

Top contributor and FPV pilot Ivan Merino created this highly cinematic FPV video of a famous church in northern Spain.  It's called the Basílica de Santa María la Real de Covadonga, and it's located in the town of Covadonga in the Asturias region.  The basilica was completed in 1901.  Located in the Picos de Europa Mountains, the site is of considerable historical significance: a battle here in the 8th century AD marked the first victory by Christian forces over those of Islam.  This video made the FPV Pilots to Watch list in July, 2020.

Enjoy these drone views of a beautiful spot on the Bay of Biscay in northern Spain, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot gasendi.  The video was filmed over the San Telmo Tower, a semi-ruined watchtower built in the 14th century, which sits atop a cliff near the town of Ubiarco in Cantabria.  At the base of the cliff, and prominently featured in the video, is the Hermitage of Santa Justa, a tiny chapel which dates to the 16th century.  Adjacent to the cliff, and also visible in the video, is the beach of Playa de Santa Justa.      

The coastline of northwestern Spain along the Bay of Biscay is home to some of the most unusual coastal geology in Europe.  Over much of the coastline, there's virtually no coastal plain, and the mountains which line the coast at times drop right to the sea.  In this drone video by lonchi campa, you'll get a drone view of the coast of Cantabria near the town of Ruiloba, which lies about an hour's drive west of the city of Santander.  The video features footage of La Canalona, Punta de Ruiloba, Playa de Luana, and more.  

Check out this fantastic showreel from northwestern Spain, compliments of contributor charlie.  The footage was captured in the semi-autonomous communities of Asturias and Cantabria, two of the country's semi-autonomous regions on the Bay of Biscay.  Like much of the Bay of Biscay coastline, the landscape here transitions from mountains to sea extremely quickly - there is no coastal plain to speak of.   Most of the footage was captured in the mountainous interior of the regions, which is crossed by the Cantabrian Mountains.

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor lonchi campa brings us this excellent drone video from the Cantabria region of northwestern Spain.  The video was shot around the town of Cóbreces, which lies towards the western end of the Cantabrian coastline.  The video opens with shots of the Acantilados El Bolao, a disused watermill on a small stream that runs through the area.  Then you'll head just to the north for some great views of the coastline on the Bay of Biscay, which is known for its cliffs and spectacular rock formations.
