Romania's Moldavia Region from the Sky

Drone Video of the Year Finalist LokmansIn brings us this stunning drone video of the Bucovina region of Romania.  Part of the historical region of Moldavia in Eastern/Southeastern Europe, running north from the Eastern Carpathian Mountains, Bucovina was once entirely within the borders of Romania but is now shared with Ukraine to the north.  Much of the video was filmed in and around Suceava, the principal city of southern (ie, Romanian) Bukovina.  You'll also explore some of Bukovina's famous monasteries.
  

Contributor ChrisCross created this stunning drone video of a massive gorge in the Moldavia region of northeastern Romania.  Bicaz Gorge (Cheile Bicazului) was created by the Bicaz River, which flows on a southwards course into the Danube River and thence to a discharge point into the Black Sea.  One of the most popular rock climbing sites in Europe, it is situated near the border with the neighboring region Transylvania to the west.  The great canyon is now part of the Cheile Bicazului-Hășmaș National Park.

Contributor Catachuppy used a DJI Phantom drone to create this stunning aerial video of the mountains of northeastern Romania.  The video was shot in the Ceahlău Massif, part of the Eastern Carpathian Mountains in the Moldavia region of Romania.  While these peaks are not the tallest in Romania (which are located in the Southern Carpathian range), they are amongst the most well known, in part for their stunning rock formations.  The area is home to some of the most popular rock climbing spots in Romania.  

Contributor Nelstill combined drone and ground camera footage to come up with this excellent video about Romania's Moldavia region.  Situated in the northeast part of the country, Moldavia is Romania's portion of the historical region of Moldavia, once an independent kingdom which is now divided between Romania, Moldova, and the Ukraine.  Romanian Moldavia is an officially recognized region of the country.  It extends from the eastern Carpathian Mountains eastward to a plains area, west of the Prut River.  

Contributor Catchuppy gives us a bird's eye view of Bicaz Lake and Dam in the Moldavia region of northeastern Romania.  The dam was completed during the Communist era in the 1950's.  It created Bicaz Lake, the largest artificial lake in the country.  The dam has a height of just over 127 meters (almost 400 ft.), making it one of the tallest dams in Eastern or Southeastern Europe.  The dam has installed capacity of just over 200MW and generates about 500MWH of electrical power on an annual basis.

AirVuz contributor Iulian Iancu brings us this beautiful drone video from the Bucovina region of northeastern Romania.  Bucovina is a historical region which is now divided roughly equally between Romania and Ukraine (to the north).  Most of Romanian Bucovina is part of Suceava County.  The landscape here is largely covered by the mountains of the Eastern Carpathians.  The specific areas featured in the video include the area around the town of Vatra Dornei, in southeastern Suceava County,  as well as Lake Colibița.

Take a tour of northeastern Romania enshrouded in winter snows, compliments of contributor and drone pilot Nelstill.  Moldavia is one of the official regions of Romania.  It lies to the east of Transylvania, to the north of Wallachia, and to the northwest of Dobrogea (Dubruja).  It is, in many respects, the cultural core of the country, which didn't exist as a nation-state until the Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia united in 1859.  Enjoy the beautiful views of this land between the Carpathians and the Pruit River.   

Moldova was a historical region of Europe which has a complex history.  Its eastern half came under the control of Russia and later the USSR before emerging as modern-day Moldova in the 1990's.  Its western half became part of the core of Romania, although a portion of these lands was seized by the USSR before World War II and is now part of the Ukraine.  In this drone video by Nelstill, you'll get a bird's eye view of the Romanian core of this land, including beautiful shots of Suceava, Iași, and Vaslui.

Romania is the fifth largest wine producer in Europe and the largest east of Italy.  One of the country's bigger winegrowing areas is an area around Focșani in Vrancea County in the eastern part of the country, where the foothills of the Eastern Carpathians transition to the valley of the Siret River, a Danube tributary.  Contributor T H Neascu used a DJI Spark drone to create this outstanding bird's eye view of the area known as the Tuscany of Romania for its resemblance to the Italian winegrowing region.

In this excellent video by Nelstill, you'll get an aerial tour of one of Romania's natural wonders: Bicaz Gorge.  Created by the Bicaz River, the gorge acts as the boundary between the country's Transylvania and Moldavia regions.  The gorge is the centerpiece of the Cheile Bicazului-Hășmaș National Park, which occupies portions of Hargita County in Transylvania and Neamț County in Moldavia.  The gorge and park are part of the Eastern Carpathian Mountains, a chain which runs on a generally north-south axis through northeastern Romania.  

Neamț County is one of the core counties of Romania's Moldavia region, in the northeastern part of the country. In this drone video by Nelstill, you'll get bird's-eye views of some of the top sights of the county, including: Bicaz Dam, Lake Pangarati, Agapia Place, Agapia Monastery, the fortress of Neamt, Cuejdel Lake, Neamt Monastery, the Ceahlău Massif, Durau Monastery, Lake Izvorul Muntelui, the Gorges of Mugicelu, the national reservation at Sugau Keys, and the Bicaz Canyon. DVOW Finalist Nelstill put together this excellent video of a well-known Romanian monastery.  The Agapia Monastery is situated in Neamț County, part of the Moldavia region which covers the northeastern corner of the country.  The structure was built in the mid-17th century at the direction of an important regional military commander.  The video combines drone footage with ground camera footage of the monastery's interior, where you'll see some incredible 19th century paintings by a well-known Romanian artist.  

Check out this excellent drone video of a narrow-gauge railway line in northeastern Romania, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot danmir12.  The railway is called the Mocăniță, and it uses steam-powered locomotives.  The area filmed is called Bucovina, a historical region which covers parts of modern-day Romania and Ukraine (Romania's northern neighbor).  The Romanian portion of Bucovina is primarily located within Suceava County, on the northern slopes of the Eastern Carpathian mountains.  

Contributor Nelstill, whose video of Romania's Neamț County was picked as the Drone Video of the Week winner in early December, 2019, follows up with another great piece from the country's (northeastern) Moldavia region.  The spot featured in this video is called Lake Cuejdel.  It's a reservoir lake on the Cuejdel River in the Stanisoara Mountains, part of the Eastern Carpathian chain which divides the region of Moldavia from that of Transylvania to its west.   Cuejdel is believed to be the country's largest artificial lake.

Former Drone Video of the Week winner and pilot Nelstill brings us this fantastic drone video from the northeastern corner of Romania.  Dolhești is a commune in Iași County, in the Moldavia region.  Just a few km/mi from the country's eastern border with Moldova, it's on the plain which lies between the Prut and Siret Rivers.  It's about 50 km (around 30 mi.) south-southeast of Iași, the regional capital and the country's second-largest city after Bucharest.  The video was filmed just as spring was emerging in the area.
