As its name suggests, Ecuador sits astride the Equator and has a characteristically tropical climate. Officially known as the Republic of Ecuador, the country is defined by a Pacific Ocean coastline and borders with Colombia and Peru plus the Galápagos Islands which lie a considerable distance offshore and are one of the world's top eco-tourism destinations. Despite being considerably smaller (in both population and area) than its South American neighbors, Ecuador features an amazingly diverse scenery, its mountainous western portion is part of the Andes Mountains region while its eastern portion is part of the Amazon River Basin. From some of the continent's highest volcanoes to its best-preserved rainforests, this video collection shows you some of the highlights of this incredible nation.
