The city-state of Singapore sits almost exactly on the equator in Southeast Asia, at the tip of the Malay Peninsula. With a population of about 5.5 million packed into an area of just over 700 square km (280 square miles), it is one of the most densely populated areas in the world, and one of just nine cities in the world to receive one of the top two Alpha City designation by the widely respected Globalization and World Cities Research Network. Visually, the great Asian city is dominated by gleaming skyscrapers and an enormous seaport, one of the world’s busiest.
