Southeastern England includes Greater London; the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Kent, East Sussex, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, and West Sussex; and the Isle of Wight. This region is home to the UK's capital, one of only two cities given the top Alpha City ranking by Globalization and World Cities Research Network and the host city for the 2012 Summer Olympics, as well as some of the other most well-recognized and historically significant places in all of the United Kingdom. Ranging from the White Cliffs of Dover; to the Isle of Wight and seaports of Southampton and Portsmouth, to the great Norman castles, to the great coastal defensive fortifications on the English Channel, and the churches and cathedrals central to the Church of England, these sites are even more imressive when seen from the perspective of a drone.
