Shanghai is not only the largest city in China, it's one of the largest in the world and increasingly one of the most important. The city lies near the mouth of the Yangtze, one of the world's greatest rivers. Its modern downtown district is now home to some of the world's tallest skyscrapers, creating a skyline which is increasingly being compared to cities like Hong Kong and New York. It's also home to the world's largest seaport, as measured by container traffic in 2018. Unquestionably one of the great Asian cities, Shanghai is one of just ten cities in the world to receive one of the two highest designations as Alpha Cities, as classified by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. Here is a collection of the best drone videos from this magnificent city, known at one time as the Pearl of the Orient. Aerial photo: "Shanghai by Clear Skies" by AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Mattcoq.

The most important river of Shanghai, China is actually not the Yangtze, the country's longest river is not actually the defining river of Shanghai. That title goes to the Huangpu River, a much shorter waterway which flows through central Shanghai from south to north and dividing the great city into Pudong (to the east) and Puxi (to the west) before emptying into the Yangtze. In this video, you'll get a bird's eye look at this important waterway, compliments of contributor and drone pilot Mattcoq.
