Drone Videos of Central and Western India

Contributor Brand Icon Studios is one of the top drone piloting companies in India.  In this aerial reel, they showcase their work across the country, principally its central and western regions.  The video features a mix of "people" oriented footage (namely some amazing wedding shots), as well as footage from the city of Indore (the largest in the state of Madhya Pradesh).  You will also see some shots of the Omkareshwar Temple, which is located on an island of the Narmada River, also in Madhya Pradesh.

Airvuz contributor India's Drones Company works throughout the state of Rajasthan in northern India. This video is a collection of drone footage from around the state which was put together for a tour company interested in showing off the region.  The highlight of the reel is some epic bird's eye footage of the great fortification and palace complex called Amer.  Located just a few km/mi from the state capital of Jaipur, this magnificent structure is one of a series of famous hill forts around Rajisthan.  

As a top cultural and tourism destination, India offers a variety of soul-stirring, historical, and natural attractions.  The India-bound traveler will appreciate this wonderfully curated, aerial shortlist of must-see stops in this remarkable Drone Video of the Week nominee from videographer @surf.the.sky.  The locations you will see, in order, are Panna Meena Kakun, Amer Fortress, and Hawa Mahal in Jaipur; Jodhpur Fort in Jodhpur; Udaipur City Palace in Udaipur; and the Taj Mahal in Agra.

This drone reel features footage from two of the most important cities in western India.  The first part was filmed around the great city of Mumbai, which lies in the delta of the Ulhas River on the Arabian Sea.  It's India's commercial capital and largest city, although Greater New Delhi is actually the largest metropolitan area.  The second part of the video features footage from Jodhpur, capital of the one-timekingdom of Marwar, which lies due north of Mumbai in the Thar Desert in the modern state of Rajasthan.

In this video, top contributor and drone pilot Pixeldo treats us to an aerial view of the Indian city of Udaipur.  One of the most important cities in the northwestern state of  Rajasthan, Udaipur is commonly known as the City of Lakes due to the presence of five major lakes.  It's situated in the Aravali Mountains in the southern part of the state, near the border with Gujarat.  The city was founded in 1558 as the capital of the kingdom of Mewar (one of India's princely states), replacing Chittorgarh in that capacity.    

New AirVuz contributor daniel.nunes brings us this fantastic aerial tour of the Indian state of Goa.  The smallest of India's 29 states, Goa lies on its western coast, otherwise surrounded by the much larger states of Maharashta to the north and Karnataka to the east and south.  The site of the oldest European settlements (that of the Portuguese), it remained outside of British control of the subcontinent and didn't join the independent state of India until 1961.  India's wealthiest state, its beaches are considered some of Asia's finest.  

Jodhpur, India is the second-largest city in the western state of Rajasthan.  Surrounded by the Thar Desert, Jodhpur was the capital of the Kingdom of Marwar, which became the Princely State of Rajasthan under the British Raj.  It's best known for its distinctive blue buildings and the giant fortress of Mehrangarh, which overlooks the city.  In this video, NGrey captures a woman practicing yoga against the distinctive blue buildings of the skyline of Jodhpur, which appeared in the blockbuster 2012 Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.

Kumbhalgarh is one of India's most famous fortresses.  It's located in the Aravalli Mountains in the western part of the country.  Kumbahalgarh was built in the 15th century on the orders of the ruler of Mewar, a kingdom which covered the southern part of what is now the state of Rajasthan.  Its perimeter walls run for 36 km (about 22 mi.), making it one of the largest fortress complexes in the world.  Seen from above in this excellent drone video by Discover India, it's part of a UNESCO World Heritage site known as the Hill Forts of Rajasthan.

While India is perhaps most closely associated with gigantic mountains and wide rivers, it's also home to one of the world's largest deserts.  The Thar Desert, sometimes known as the Great Indian Desert, covers 200k square km (just over 75k square mi.), most of which is in the northwestern Indian state of Rajasthan.  It's one of the world's top 20 deserts in area, and the most populated.  In this video, you'll get an aerial tour of this magnificent desert, compliements of contributor Miapvideos.

In this piece, former DVA nominee Face du Monde treats us to a marvelous air/ground tour of the Indian city of Veranasi in celebration during the annual Holi holiday.  One of the most important Hindu holidays, the two-day Holi festival is a celebration of spring, love, and associated rites.  It is of particular cultural importance in this city on the Ganges River, considered the holiest of the holy seven cities of Hinduism.  It's also considered the birthplace of Buddhism, which arose in India but has since virtually disappeared here.

The Indian state of Rajasthan is the territory of a much older kingdom called Marwar, which existed as an independent state from the 13th century until the formation of the modern state of India in 1947.  One of the cultural relics of the kingdom is a mausoleum called  Jaswant Thada.  Seen here in this drone video by sphereview, the structure was built in the then-ruler Marwar around the turn of the 20th century.  It's located in the city of Jodhpur, the capital the erstwhile Marwar capital and now Rajasthan's #2 city. 

Pune is the second largest city in the great Indian state of Maharashta, after Mumbai.  With a metropolitan population of over 7 million, it's one of the ten largest cities in the country.  It is situated on a plateau about 150 km (around 90 mi.) southeast of the larger city.  Home to some of the country's best-known universities, Pune is considered the cultural capital of India's largest state.   In this video by Drone's Eye View Hong Kong, you'll get a dawn-to-dusk bird's eye view of this important city.

In this epic drone video by contributor and pilot Damardhaval, you'll get an amazing bird's eye view of thousands of people participating in an Indian folk dance.  It's part of the United Way Garba Celebration at Vadodara, Gujarat, the westernmost state of India.  The occasion is Navratri, a nine-day Hindu festival that occurs in September/October every year.  In other parts of India, it is celebrated at different times of the year and in some cases with greater than annual frequency.  

The Lake Palace is one of the top attractions in the Indian city of Udaipur, known as the City of Lakes.  It's situated on an island in Lake Pichola, an artificial lake here in this important city in the northwestern state of Rajasthan.  The palace was built in the mid-1700's as a summer residence for the rulers of Mewar, one of India's former princely states.  The palace was one of the key filming locations in the 1983 James Bond film, Octopussy: it was here that 007 (played by Roger Moore) meets his ally-to-be.  The palace is now a luxury hotel. 

Chittorgarh Fort is one of the most famous fortresses in India and indeed the world.  It's situated in the southeastern part of Rajasthan, India's westernmost state.  Dating to the 7th century AD, the fortress served as the capital of the Mewar Kingdom, one of the princely states which eventually allied with the British Raj against the Mughal Empire prior to Indian independence.  Seen in this excellent drone video by Man Meets the World, Chittorgargh is the largest of the six Rajasthan hill forts in a UNESCO World Heritage site.  

Jaipur is the capital of India's northwestern state of Rajasthan.  Together with Delhi and Agra, it's part of the Golden Triangle, a popular tourist circuit.  Jaipur is known first and foremost for a chain of fortresses which surround the city, which was founded in 1727.  In this excellent drone video by Man Meets the World, you'll get an aerial tour of three of the most famous of these fortresses: Jaigarh, Nahargah, and Amer.  Amer is the most well-known of the three; it's one of the six Hill Forts of Rajasthan UNESCO World Heritage site. 

Aerialindians created this excellent drone reel of India's national capital New Delhi.  The city is its own federal territory and lies in the north central part of the country.  New Delhi was built relatively recently, in the early 20th century, to the southwest of the old Mughal capital of Delhi.  It was constructed as the new capital of India under British rule, which had previously been in Kolkata (Calcutta).  Situated on the Yamuna River, it's India's largest city, with a metropolitan population of over 25 million.  

Here's a fascinating drone video of an important city in India during the Covid-19 quarantine in the Spring of 2020.  AirVuz contributor GunjGuglani1 filmed the city of Gurugram (also called Gurgaon), which lies in the north-central state of Haryana, on the border with the National Capital Territory of Delhi.  One of India's leading banking and financial centers, it's known as one of the country's richest cities.  Like most of the giant country, the city was put under a community quarantine to combat the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus.   

Varanasi is a culturally important Indian city in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.  Also known as Banares, the city is situated on the  Ganges River, India's most important waterway.  Varanasi is considered the holiest of the seven cities deemed sacred under the Hindu religion,  and it's also important in the Jain Dharma religion.  Contributor and pilot Pixeldo.com created this amazing drone video of the river city, which is the site of two large temples built during the time of the Mughal Empire.  

Check out this fantastic aerial view of the Indian city of Indore during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Spring of 2020, compliments of AIrVuz contributor RG Aerial Imaging.  Indore is the largest city in Madhya Pradesh, one of the states near the center of this vast country.  The 500+ year old city arose by virtue of its geographic position between the Deccan Plateau and the city of Delhi to the north.  Like most of India, Indore was subject to increasingly stringent social distancing measures to combat the spread of the deadly coronavirus.  

Here's a great drone-lapse sequence from one of the most well-known spots in Mumbai, India, compliments of Drone Dost.  Marine Drive is a promenade which runs for about 3.6 km (a bit over 2 mi.) along a body of water known as Back Bay, just south of central Mumbai.  It's also sometimes called Subhas Chandra Bose Road, in memory of the fiery Indian nationalist who died shortly before India achieved independence from the British Empire in 1947.  The real estate here is amongst the most expensive in Mumbai. 

Former DVOW Finalist TravelPenguin brings us this stunning drone video of the great Indian city of Jodhpur, the second-largest city in the western state of Rajasthan.  Most of the first part of the video was shot over Jaswant Thada, a cenotaph (a type of tomb) on the city's northern outskirts.  The rest of the video was shot over the city's main attraction: the giant hilltop fortress of Mehrangarh.  Built in the 15th century, this landmark was used as a principal filming location for the 2012 Batman movie the Dark Knight Rises.   

Check out this drone video of a celebration at one of India's largest mosques, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot GunjGuglaqni1.  The video was shot during the post-Ramadan Eid al-Fitr festival over the Jama Masjid Mosque in Delhi, the national capital territory.  The mosque was built in the mid-17th century on the orders of Shah Jahan, considered one of the greatest of the Mughal Emperors.  Distinguished by its three domes and two minarets, the mosque's great courtyard is capable of holding up to 25,000 people.   

Take in these drone views of an epic Yoga Day celebration atop a historic hill fort in the heart of India.  Gwalior Fortress is located near its namesake town in Madhya Pradesh, the giant state which covers much of the geographic center of India.  The fortress originally dates to at least the 10th century AD, and possibly even earlier.  The "modern" part of the complex, which consists of two palaces and surrounding fortifications, dates to around 1500.  These were built on the orders of the ruler of the Rajput dynasty Tomaras of Gwalior.  

Jaipur, India is the largest city in the western state of Rajasthan and one of the country's ten most populous.  It was founded in 1727 as a planned city and later became the capital of the State of Jaipur under the British Raj.  In this drone video, you will be treated to some excellent drone views of the city from Nahargarh Fort, which lies in the Aravalli Hills overlooking the city.  Nahargarh was one of three mighty fortresses (along with Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort) built to protect the great city.

Goa is India's smallest state and also one of its most well known.  Originally the center of Portuguese rule of India going back to the 1500's, it's now known primarily as one of the top beach destinations in Asia.  Situated on the country's western coast on the Arabian Sea (considered part of the Indian Ocean) south of the great city of Mumbai, the area was "rediscovered" by the hippie crowd in the 1960's.  You can see this beautiful region in this drone video, which includes footage of its famous Anjuna Beach.

Bikaner is one of the largest and most important cities in the western Indian state of Rajasthan.  It's located about 330 km (around 200 mi.) northwest of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan.  Founded in the 15th century, for centuries Bikaner was the capital of the princely state of the same name, a British protectorate from 1818 until Indian independence.  In this drone video by Insanity-p, you can take an aerial tour of this historic city.  The video features excellent footage of the city's top attraction: the 16h century Junagarh Fort.

Contributor and drone pilot Travelogueone created this lovely aerial video of a town on India's western coastline.  Dapoli is situated on the Arabian Sea in the state of Maharashta.  It's in the Ratnagiri district, about 215 km (about 135 mi.) south of the great city of Mumbai.  In Colonial times, it was a military camp, and it's the burial place of many British officers.   In the video, you will get a visual sense of the countryside of Maharashta, which is the second most populous state in the country.   

Prepare to be amazed by this incredible drone video of a giant flock of pink flamingoes near Mumbai, India, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot calvin nadar.  The video was shot during the Covid-19 "lockdown" in the first half of 2020, when social distancing measures forced most of India's human population indoors while allowing some of its human-avoiding wildlife to flourish.  That's what happened here in the area of Navi Mumbai, a planned city just south of central Mumbai in the western state of Maharashta.  

Bhopal is one of the most important cities in central India. It's the capital of the state of Madhya Pradesh, near the geographic center of this massive country.  Home to several large lakes, it's sometimes called the City of Lakes, a name which also applied to the western city of Udaipur.  Bhopal city was founded in the early 1700's by a Mughal general as the capital of the State of Bhopal, which eventually became one of the princely states.  Check out the great city from above in this drone video by new contributor Justin Shareef.  

The "star" of this drone video by travelogist is Chitrakote Falls, one of the best-known waterfalls in India.  It's located on the Indravati River in the Bastar District of Chhattisgarh, a landlocked state in the east-central part of the country.  With modest drop of just under 30 meters (95 ft.) it's known as the widest waterfall in the country.  The video also includes footage of other waterfalls in the region, notably the Teerathgarh Falls, which falls 91 meters (just under 300 ft.) on a single drop.  

The great Ganges (Ganga) River is amongst the 3-4 most important rivers in the world, although in terms of length it's a distant #35 at just over 2.5km (1.56 mi.).  It rises in the Himalaya's and runs through the North Indian Plain before breaking into distributories that empty into the Bay of Bengal. Passing through the most holy sites in Hinduism, it's considered sacred in the third largest religion.  In this video, you'll get an aerial look at the river nearer its source, compliments of contributor Miapvideos.

Check out this drone video of an important landmark in western India, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot sphereview.  The Toorji Ka Jhalra Bavdi is what is known as a stepwell, a pond or well surrounded by steps which is seen throughout much of western India and Pakistan.  It's located in Jodhpur, the second-largest city in the state of Rajasthan (after Jaipur) and the former capital of the Kingdom of Marwar.  Dating to 1740, this landmark is one of the most intricately designed stepwells in India.

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor surajFPVv brings us this excellent first person view (FPV) drone video of a fascinating ancient ruins site in western India.  It's called the Panchkunda Ki Chatris, and it consists of a set of 46 cenotaphs (empty tombs) in Jodhpur, the second-largest city in the state of Rajasthan.  The site is just a few mi/km from the better-known fortress which stands above the city.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in October, 2022.    

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor oaashish brings us this fantastic drone video from the Indian state of Goa.  India's smallest but richest state, the former Portuguese colony lies along the country's western coast on the Arabian Sea.  Shot with a DJI Mavic Pro drone over the course of several months in 2019 and early 2020 before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the video features footage of the following locations: Anjuna, Candolim, Baga, and Morjim Beaches; Siolim; Arambol and Vagator Beaches; and Arpora.  

Former DVOW Finalist TravelPenguin brings us this outstanding drone video from Udaipur, India's "City of Lakes".  The one-time capital of the Mewar Kingdom is located in southern Rajasthan, one of the main states of western India.  The video opens with shots of the City Palace on the eastern side of Lake Pichola; the 16th century complex is the city's most recognizable landmark .  Other featured locations include the Mohan Temple, which sits on a tiny square-shaped island of Pichola, the Lake Palace, on a much larger island, and more. 

Goa is India's smallest state.  It is situated roughly in the middle of the western coast of India on the Arabian Sea (an extension of the Indian Ocean), about 600 km (360 mi) south of Mumbai.  Goa was the center of Portuguese colonization of India, which began in the late 15th century.  Today, among other distinctions, it's known as one of the top beach areas in Asia and by some accounts in the world.  In this video, contributor Al uses his DJI Mavic Pro drone to give us a bird's eye view of this incredible region.

Drones allow us to see large outdoor gatherings from an entirely new perspective.  Case in point is this excellent drone video from India by contributor damardhaval.  He aerially filmed a massive celebration in the city of Vadodara during the Hindu festival of Navrati.  It's known as a Garba dance, and it originated here in the western state of Gujarat.  The gathering is called Garba Mahotsav, and it attracts tens of thousands of spectator-participants every year.  It's sponsored by the United Way of Baroda 

Take an aerial tour of the Indian state of Rajasthan, compliments of contributor Karanchordia.  This giant territory covers over 10% of India's land area, making it the country's largest state by that measure although it's only #7 in terms of population.   Nearly 40% of Rajasthan is covered by the Thar Desert, the largest on the Indian subcontinent.  The video features a mix of footage from across the great state, ranging from camel caravans to the great city of Udaipur aka the City of Lakes.
