Despite its travails, Detroit, Michigan continues to be one of the most important cities in the Midwestern USA. Its story is one of the most dramatic in urban history and one which is inextricably intertwined with that of the automobile. Between 1900 and 1930, the city grew an astonishing 650%; by the latter date it was the fourth largest city in the land and its auto assembly and parts factories employed hundreds of thousands. In recent decades, radical changes to the auto industry have led to massive job cuts and out-migration, reducing its population by an equally astonishing 60% (from its peak around 1950), This has left Detroit with literally thousands of abandoned places, but has also turned the Motor City into somewhat of a Bando heaven for FPV pilots. And yet, in the midst of this, the city is experiencing a rebirth which many would have thought impossible just a few short years ago. Here is a collection of the best drone videos from this improbable city on the Great Lakes once known as Fort Dearborn.
