Belitung is situated just east of Sumatra, the largest island in the Indonesian archipelago by land area. It's one of the two main islands of the province of Bangka Belitung Islands. Covering an area of about 4.8k square km (around 1.8k square mi.), Belitung has a population of about a quarter million. Surrounded by the blue-green waters of the Java Sea, it's become a popular destination for snorkeling and scuba diving.
