Melting Glaciers | Global Warming | Documentary Short Film
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Former DVOW Winner Julien Hulin brings us this magnificent drone video from the French Alps, which was created to illustrate the effects of global warming on the glaciers of the Alps. With their relatively small size, these glaciers are extremely sensitive to the ongoing rise in global temperatures. The expected disappearance of at least 80% of their aggregate mass will mark the end of an important freshwater storage mechanism, and will forever disrupt the appearance of some of the world's most beautiful alpine landscapes.

"Glaciers are disappearing more quickly than scientists previously estimated. Those in the European Alps are especially vulnerable because they are smaller, with relatively little ice cover. Meanwhile, temperatures in the Alps are warming at about 0.3 °C a decade – twice as fast as the global average. If greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, the Alps glaciers are expected to lose more than 80% of their current mass. Many will disappear regardless of whatever action is taken now, thanks to global warming baked in by past emissions.
There can be no more hiding, and no more denying. Global heating is supercharging extreme weather at an astonishing speed, and it’s now visible in the entire world."
