Magical Papigo

Papigo, a village in the northern Greece with incomparable beauty. The Tymfi mountain that rises behind the village works as a roof for the village small Papigo with the Astraka towers to function like an unreal landscape taken from a fairy tale. People says that Astraka towers is the natural parthenon and every time you look at them they are never the same as before!Tymfi mountain is a protected Natura 2000 habitat with an alpine lake in 2.050 meters that called Dragons lake. One of the many myths that accompanies the lake, informs us that a huge dragon used to live there and that is why it owes its name. There is even a story of conflict with the other dragon that lived in the opposite Dragon lake of Smolikas. As the legend tells us, every day the two huge dragons fought with each other, throwing objects at each other, while one of them was going to drink water. Now their place has been taken by reptiles while the forests of the area are one of the most important habitats for the brown bear in Greece while in the surrounding plains there are prosperous herds of wolves. The highest and most remote parts of Tymfi host one of the largest populations of wild goats in Greece, without unfortunately missing the cases of shameful and cowardly poaching of these wonderful animals.
