DJI Mavic 3 pro - Lake Omodeo, province of Oristano, in the historical subregion of Barigadu. Lake Omodeo (in Sardinian Lagu Omodeu) is an artificial lake in Sardinia. It is located in the province of Oristano, in the historical subregion of Barigadu. It is formed by the damming of the Tirso river by the Santa Chiara dam first and by the more recent Eleonora d'Arborea dam, located respectively in the territory of Ula Tirso and Busachi. The reservoir is named after Angelo Omodeo, the engineer who oversaw the design of the first dam, which remains partially submerged by the waters of the new reservoir. The first artificial basin was created with the construction of the Santa Chiara dam, near Ula Tirso, which was completed in 1924, and inaugurated on April 28 of the same year in the presence of King Vittorio Emanuele III, creating the largest artificial lake in Europe, which had a maximum capacity of 403 million cubic meters of water. The Eleonora d'Arborea Dam The works for its construction were part of a larger project, which also included the reclamation of the Oristano plain. 16,000 workers were employed to carry out the project drawn up by the engineer Angelo Omodeo, who also participated in the construction of the large dams on the Nile. The construction was completed in five years, under the direction of the engineer Giulio Dolcetta. More than 22 km long, the basin was built in order to regulate the flooding of the river, produce electricity and for the irrigation of the Campidano plain of Oristano. The creation of the artificial basin also caused the submersion of some archaeological sites (nuraghi, giants' tombs, and the pre-Nuragic settlement of Serra Linta) and the small village of Zuri, which was rebuilt on a hill not far from the lake. Even the ancient church of the village, dedicated to St. Peter the Apostle, was dismantled stone by stone and rebuilt upstream, in its current position. On February 2, 1941, the dam was attacked with torpedoes by planes taking off from the British aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal. In 1997, the new dam, named after Eleonora d'Arborea, was inaugurated. The barrier is 100 meters high and 582 meters long. The total volume of the reservoir is equal to 792 million cubic meters of water, covering a surface area of 29,370 km².
