ISTANBUL - GOLDEN HORN
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Istanbul, Turkey has long been known for its bridges, long before technology allowed the Bosphorus Strait to be spanned beginning in the 1970's. Prior to the advent of modern suspension bridge technology, Istanbul's most notable bridges were those which crossed the Golden Horn, an inlet to the strait which effectively divides the western side of the city in half. Today, the Golden Horn is spanned by three bridges, all of which you'll see in this drone video by ucarakkesfet: the Atatürk, Galata, and Golden Horn Metro Bridges.

Colonization began here during the Byzantine period. It was also the maritime center of the Byzantine Empire. The walls along the coast were built to protect the city from a naval fleet attack. At the entrance of the Golden Horn, there was a wide chain extending across the city from the city to the northeast end of the old Galata Tower in order to prevent the entry of unwanted ships, and the first mention of it in the sources was the Siege of Constantinople in 717.[1] This tower was extensively destroyed by the Latin crusaders in the Fourth Crusade in 1204. But the Genoese built a new tower next to it. This tower is called the famous Galata Tower 1348 Christea Turris (Christ's Tower). There were three remarkable times when he could break the chain that closed the Golden Horn or win by deception. In the tenth century, the Vikings dragged their longships out of the strait, around Galata, and lowered them from the slipway back into the Golden Horn. The Byzantines defeated them with Greek fire. In the 4th Crusade in 1204, Venetian ships could break the chain with a ram. In 1453, the Ottoman Sultan II. Mehmed's ships to the Golden Horn by passing through Galata on oiled logs.* After the delivery of the city to Fatih Sultan Mehmed; Greeks, Georgians, Jews, Italian merchants and other non-Muslims began to live in Fener and Balat along the Golden Horn. Today the Golden Horn is located on both sides. There are parks along the coast. It attracts tourists because of its beauty and history. The Golden Horn was a region with a dense Jewish, Greek, Armenian and Georgian population during the Ottoman period. Karyağdıbaba, Karaağaç and Sütlüce, Giresunlu Lodges, which were followed by the intellectuals of the Ottoman period, are located in this region. Galata Bridge today; It connects Galata and Eminönü over the Golden Horn. The other two bridges over the Golden Horn are the Atatürk Bridge and the Golden Horn Bridge. Until the 1980s; The Golden Horn, a place where industrial wastes were dumped, started to be cleaned during the period of Mayor Bedrettin Dalan's promise "I will make the Golden Horn as blue as my eyes" and was made cleaner in the 2000s as a result of long years of work. In order to clean the Golden Horn, the project, which was started to ensure the continuous flow of sea water from the Bosphorus to the Kağıthane Stream, to renew the stream water and to ensure that clean water enters the Golden Horn, was completed in 2012. .
