Located off Ireland's western coast, Inisheer is the smallest of the three Aran Islands at the southern entrance of Galway Bay, which separates County Galway (to the north) from County Clare (to the south). Inisheer is famous in part for its glacio-karst landscapes, which are part of the system known as the Burren. Settled since no later than 1500 BC, Inisheer currently has fewer than 300 permanent residents.
