One of the world's top emerging eco-tourism destinations, the Western Ghats run parallel to India's western (Arabian Sea) coastline, with the heart of the range lying across the states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Formed roughly 150 million years ago (about 100 million years before the Himalayas), the Western Ghats reach heights of up to about 8.8k ft. above sea level (around 2.7k m).
