Lampedusa is one of the three Pelagie Islands, which lie in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, roughly halfway between the large Italian island of Sicily and the North African country of Tunisia. It's part of the Province of Agrigento, most of which is on the southern side of Sicily. Lampedusa covers about seven square mi. (around 20 square km).
