AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE : Even as Hawaii's "other" islands have become increasingly popular, Waikiki Beach on the island of Oahu continues to be seen as one of the world's most iconic beaches. The beach, which is brilliantly captured here by contributor Ryzone, owes its fame in part to a man named Duke Kahanamoku who is credited with inventing modern form of surfing in the early 1900's. Ironically, this stretch of coastline southeast of Honolulu isn't really a natural "beach" at all; its sand was imported from California!
