Given its storied history, it's not surprising that Venice has been featured prominently in literature for centuries.  The spectacular city you see in the video was the setting for Shakespeare's drama Merchant of Venice, the great German novelist Thomas Mann's 20th century classic Death in Venice, and countless modern novels and short stories.
