The death of a palace - Conacul Marghiloman

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE : Conacul Marghiloman is a prominent mansion near Hagişti, a small town in Romania's Wallachia (Muntenia) region, a short distance northeast of the Romanian capital city Bucharest. The current structure was built in the late 1800's on top of a partially-destroyed structure which had been there for over 200 years. The mansion features some of the best 19th century Italian craftsmanship, and it's recently been put into a program which protects cultural and historical landmarks in Eastern Europe.

It includes architecture details specific for the Romanian constructions of noblemen in XIX century. It was built by italian masters at the request of Alexandru Marghiloman, a very important man of Romania during the WWI. The palace has 3 levels( basement, Ground floor with 7 rooms and 1st floor with 10 rooms), a central loby where can be still observed parts of original paintings with religious themes and 2 large balconies. After the death of Alexandru Marghiloman, the prime minister of Romania in 1918, the palace was inherited by her dauther, Suzana Marghiloman. In the end it remained in the custody of Capra family and after 1950 during comunism period it was used as storage room for cereals. In 1996 was declared as historical monument and recently it was included in a program of European Comission for salvage of abandoned monuments.
