It's located in the "twin cities" of Champaign and Urbana, about 220 km (around 135 mi.) south of Chicago. Founded in 1837, the UofI is considered one of the Midwest's top research universities. Home of the USA's second-largest university library, the school is closely associated with the birth of the modern internet in the 1990's. Its Fighting Illini teams are an athletic powerhouse in the Big Ten conference.
