The Legendary ‘Riviera dei Ciclopi’ - SICILY - ITALY
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
A stretch of Sicily's eastern coastline shows the continuing power of ancient Greek mythology to hold our fascination. It's the area north of Catania (the Italian island's principal commercial center), just east of Mt. Etna. Seen from above in this drone video by AirVuz contributor g-fly_it, the area sometimes referred to as the Cyclopean Riviera gets its name from the Cyclopean Islands, the area's most distinctive natural feature; the tiny islets feature prominently as the home of the mythical cyclops in the works of Homer.

This vision is perfectly represented by the ‘Riviera dei Ciclopi’, or Riviera of the Cyclops, which is a stretch of coastline north of Catania leading from Aci Castello to Acireale. This is such a beautiful part of Sicily and is surrounded by myth and legend. Two of the most popular stories from this area tell of the Cyclops ‘Polifemo’, the one-eyed giant, who was the son of Poseidon (the god of the sea) and Thoosa (a sea nymph).
