AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
When Iceland's Fagradalsfjall volcano began spewing molten lava in March, 2021, many geologists predicted that the eruption signaled the start of a new cycle of volcanic activity on the Reykjanes peninsula in the southwest corner of the island following 800 years of quiet. This prediction has borne out, with major eruptions occurring throughout much of 2021 and in August, 2022. In July, 2023, a major eruption near Litli-Hrútur, northeast of the original fissure.
