Stronger Than Carr - VFX Breakdown

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE : Two-time Drone Video Award winner Chrisxgxc helped to produce this moving video story about the impact of the Carr Fire which raged through Shasta and Trinity Counties of Northern California in late July and August of 2018. The fire, one of the worst in California history, destroyed over a thousand homes and damaged hundreds more. It took over a month of backbreaking, dangerous work by hundreds of firefighters to bring the fire under control. The film required superimposing fire and smoke effects on drone footage of the area.

Stronger Than Carr - VFX Breakdown Stronger Than Carr is a film that highlights the resilience of the brave people of Shasta County during and following the devastating Carr Fire. The movie was created by Spero Pictures and is making its film festival rounds. I was asked by director, Jason Head, to do the visual effects/compositing of a large smoke plume/fire on a provided drone shot (by DP Harry Omensetter) for the film. This short breakdown shows some of my process in creating this shot. The final drone shot features an amazing matte painting by digital painter, Sara Avery (http://sunset.industries). Thanks to Jason Head and Spero Pictures for allowing me to be a part of this great and encouraging film.
