St. Lucia is situated roughly in the middle of the Windward Antilles chain which runs in an approximately north-south line from Dominica to Trinidad. Known at one time as the "Helen of the West Indies" due to its alternating control by France and Great Britain, it's been fully independent since 1979. Visually, it is best distinguished by the 950 meter (just over 3k ft.) volcanic island Mt. Gimie.
