Located in the northwestern part of the country, near the Indian border, it played an important role in the eastward spread of Buddhism from India. The 1,200 year old structure is considered on of the most important cultural sites on the Indian Subcontinent, and is one of just three UNESCO World Heritage sites in Bangladesh as of 2018.
