This is the 16th video in my series from the Pacific Northwest. (Only some of which have been uploaded to AirVuz.) The hike out to lookout point included spectacular views, but also some surprise paths along the very edge: 800 feet down, tree roots and rocks ready to catch weary feet, and no cables available to catch my sudden stumble. By the time I got to the point, vertigo had grown into a ferocious monster beating at my anxious heart and daring me to slip up to the edge and take another step. Not the best time to fly a drone into the unwelcoming sky. Its angry winds lashed suddenly across the unforgiving rocks and I found myself choked by the cord that had saved my hat a half dozen times already. If I were a pro, I would have taken thrilling footage, swooped with the gulls, dived down to the waves and soared high above the cape showing it in all its majesty. Being the amateur that I am, I felt terrified as soon as the props lifted the bird above the dust and was too cautious and preoccupied to fly very far beyond the illusionary safety of the eroding ground my feet gripped in terror. The whole time I was thinking that a gust of wind would whip the drone far out to sea, never to be seen again. That was a much better thought than the spontaneous visions of my own freefall to the wind-scored steel-hard watery awakening below. So you will have to use your imagination.
