Skokloster Castle is situated on the shores of Lake Mälaren (Sweden's third-largest freshwater body), a bit south of the city of Uppsala and a somewhat further distance northwest of Stockholm. The Baroque style landmark was constructed between 1654-76 by Carl Gustaf Wrangel, who commanded Sweden's forces during the Thirty Years' War and in later conflicts. Since 1967, the castle has been owned by the Swedish government.
