Contributor and drone pilot Thomas Vitali created this moving aerial video of Sicily in memory of his just-departed uncle, who had grown up on the Italian island. The video brilliantly captures some of the most beautiful sights of the Mediterranean's largest island, which is home to over 5 million permanent residents. You'll get epic bird's eye views of its stunning coastline, its roads snaking to mountaintop villages, and an awesome shot of the Palermo Cathedral in the island's capital city.

More than 20 years have passed until I visited Sicily again. I didn't know that it will become one of my most emotional trips. Because one day before I departed, my father's brother passed away. And I was going to visit the places where they have grown up and played in the streets as kids. So the journey became a different meaning to me: to find the key to their awareness of life. Dedicated to my uncle Mario Vitali (06.05.1955 in Piazza Armerina - 16.09.2016 in Munich)
