The Santa Monica Pier is one of the most recognized landmarks of Southern California. Opened in 1909 with no amenities, by the 1920's it was one of the most popular getaway spots from nearby Los Angeles. In addition to appearing as a filming location in numerous movies, the pier was used for the opening credits of Three's Company, one of the most popular TV shows of the 1970's.
