SINKING Catamaran Rescue

Quick thinking by the skipper saved this catamaran from fully sinking. After hitting the rocky shallow waters on the nearby island by the name of Apatro, right off the coastline, the skipper quickly brought the catamaran to this resting place on the rocks right close to the beach while waiting for them to be rescued. This took place in a small village on Sithonia called Valti. The Coast Guard had to come all the way from Volos, which in a way is on the other side of Greece. The size of the catamaran played a key role to this ‘Rescue Plan’. Finding the right size dock platform and crane that can lift this catamaran from the water was exceptionally important so to execute the plan. Timing was everything, the weather changed with every passing hour, no waves were needed so that the operation can be a success. The Coast Guard Team first examined the area around the wreck, than had expert divers see the wreck and damage from underwater, before executing the next steps needed to take this catamaran out off the water. They secured the platform in place, stabilized the catamaran so to prevented It from flipping over, and started strapping the catamaran with their lifting cables, positioning them in the right place and avoiding damaging the catamaran even more than It already is. After making sure that everything was in order, they proceeded with the lift, put the catamaran on their platform and carried it to the repair shop back at the docks again in Volos. Truly impressed by everybody involved that help during this long process. The whole video was shot over a 3 day period, from the moment the catamaran was coming towards these rocks in the shallows (preventing the boat from sinking), all the way to the rescue by the Greek Coast Guard.
