One of Russia's 15-16 largest cities, it's situated on the Kuban River, one of the region's most important waterways. Sochi lies to the southeast of the provincial capital, on the Black Sea. Russia's primary resort town on the Black Sea, Sochi gained international recognition as the host city for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
