BADGES THIS VIDEO HAS EARNED:

The Raiers of the Noguera Pallaresa are a historical and cultural tradition in the region of Pallars Sobirà, in Catalonia, Spain. The "raiers" were the old navigators and transporters who guided logs downstream using rafts made of the same logs, known as "rais". This activity was essential for the local economy in the 19th century and early 20th century, as timber was one of the main exports of the region. The raiers built their rafts by hand, using traditional techniques passed down through generations, and then navigated the rivers, like the Noguera Pallaresa, facing the natural dangers of fast currents and whirlpools. The journey was risky and required great skill and knowledge of the river. Today, the Raiers of the Noguera Pallaresa have become a symbol of the cultural heritage of the area.

Every year, in the town of La Pobla de Segur, the Raiers Festival is celebrated, a festive and commemorative event that recreates these old river descents. During the festival, participants dressed in traditional clothing build wooden rafts and navigate the river, reviving the historical work of the raiers and preserving this valuable tradition. This festival is recognized as a National Tourist Interest Festival and is a tribute to the courage and ingenuity of these ancient navigators.
