Misty Sunrise in the Swamp

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE : The Tierlis Swamp is one of the largest in the Baltic republic of Latvia. Seen here at sunrise in this drone video by +FRAME, the Tirelis lies just south of the resort town of Jūrmala and about an hour's drive southwest of the capital city of Riga. Now a picture of serenity, these swamplands were the site of a notable battle in World War I, when a Russian offensive operation against Germany was stopped "cold" over Christmas of 1916; the defeat was a proximate cause of the revolution which erupted in St. Petersburg two months later.

Cenas tīrelis from different angles of view, very interesting territory. It was once the second largest swamp in Latvia, right after the Teiči swamp. At one time, it was decided to combine both economic and nature protection areas into one area. In its affected part, peat extraction, which was begun before World War II, continued. 2133 hectares of swamp were set aside for nature protection purposes. Cenas tīrelis is an area of particular importance to birds, which select this high-quality mire for nesting and feeding. Today, as you walk the Cenas Swamp, it is possible to view some of these two worlds, as the Swamp Cenas, like the swamp itself, has two sides. The beginning of the swamp footpath leads through the peat fields of the Cenas tīrelis.
