Minna-jima (jima means "island" in Japanese) is a small island in northwestern Okinawa, surrounded by coral reefs and covering an area of only 0.5 square kilometers (0.2 square miles). There are two other islands in Okinawa called Minna-jima, but this one resembles the shape of a croissant, so locals sometimes call it "Croissant Island" to distinguish it. The current population of this island is about 50, and the islanders are engaged in agriculture, fishing, and tourism. Minna-jima is only a 15-minute high-speed ferry ride from the main island of Okinawa, and has more beautiful beaches than the main island of Okinawa.
