Previously, the kids have learned about drone components, started to build and now... it's time to get them working! Mike Bros, KING TeC Member and Drone Camp Coordinator, gives step by step instructions and the teams start to bind their drones. Things started out smoothly, but the kids found out quickly that things don't always go as planned when you're working with technology. "Critical thinking and problem solving is a huge thing that has been pushed by a lot of the education system at least in Minnesota where I am. So being able to go through and problem solve mechanical and hardware and software issues on a piece of technology is a huge boost." -Mike Bros With problem solving and teamwork, all the drones are bound and now, it's time to move onto... programming! The teams are introduced to BetaFlight. It's what they will use to configure their drones. Mike guides the kids through the step by step process. At the end of the episode, some of the kids share their thoughts on the experience. More episodes of Drone Camp to come! Here, on AirVuz.com Learn more about KING TeC VIDEO TRANSCRIPT Speaker 1: And we're back. Previously, the kids have learnt about drone components, started to build, and now ... Cole B: Apparently we're going to get these working. Mike Bros: So, person number one, I want you to be holding the controller right now. Once you've got [King Techone 00:00:25] selected, press enter again, and then press the exit button, which is the EXT on the [00:00:30] left top. Speaker 4: EXT. Mike Bros: Person two, you're going to have the tweezers or a small screwdriver. On the top of your receiver, there's a little hole, there's a little button there. Try clicking it with the screwdriver or tweezers. Cole D: Look, I did it. Mitchell: Nice. James: And now bind? Andrew T: Yes. [crosstalk 00:00:55]. James: Okay. Speaker 4: Press the call button. [crosstalk 00:00:59]. Andrew T: Now, turn it off. [crosstalk 00:01:01]. [00:01:00] Did you turn it off? James: Yeah, I turned it off. It's benign. Andrew T: Okay, it's bound. James: All right. [crosstalk 00:01:07]. Speaker 4: We can break here. [crosstalk 00:01:10]. Mike Bros: Here you go. [crosstalk 00:01:10]. Pass the plan button. [crosstalk 00:01:10]. There you go. [crosstalk 00:01:10]. It's all laid. You're gone. [crosstalk 00:01:23]. Just double check, turn it off. Speaker 4: Enter. [crosstalk 00:01:23]. Speaker 9: All right. Speaker 10: Sure [00:01:30] we're done with that one. Speaker 9: [Gator 00:01:31], you're out. Mike Bros: This is King Tech two, so who's person number two? All right. So, now do the same thing you did with this drone, to that drone. Speaker 1: Things started out smoothly, but the kids found out quickly that things don't always go as planned when you're working with technology. Speaker 4: So, you just have to try it again? Cole B: Yeah. [crosstalk 00:01:50]. Hold it down. Andrew T: Okay. You need to take it apart, and move the motherboard. Mitchell: So, it [00:02:00] knows that it's bound to that, and it's connected to the computer, but this doesn't know. [crosstalk 00:02:05]. Cody: It would make sense. [crosstalk 00:02:11]. Too flashy. Mike Bros: Critical thinking and problem solving is a huge thing that has been pushed by a lot of the education system, at least in Minnesota where I am, so being able to go through and problem solve mechanical and hardware and software issues on a piece of technology [00:02:30] is a huge boost. Speaker 1: With problem solving and teamwork, all the drones are bound. And now, it's time to move onto ... Cole D: Programming. Mike Bros: This is Beta Flight. This is what we use to configure the drones, and make sure that all the controls are right. Right now, what you have is, you have your drone connected to your computer, and it is connected to this screen right here where you can see your drone moving. You also have [00:03:00] your controller on the profile one, which is the profile that is connected to your drone, which lights up red or flashes red slowly. So, first thing we're going to do is get your drone as flat as possible on the table, and then, you want to click "Calibrate Accelerometer" at the top. Now we're going to go over to the motors. We want to select "Brushed", and you want to have motor stock, and disarm, and you want this one [00:03:30] to be gray. Copy these numbers exactly like they are on the screens. 5-110-2,000, and 1,000. Receiver tab. This is important. So, the receiver tab should be a serial based receiver, and it should be the spectrum 10-24. In the lower right hand corner there should be a Save and Reboot button. Everyone click that now. [00:04:00] And then, if you guys all have your controllers on and connected to your drone, you should be able to get some feedback. So, check all your controllers. Speaker 9: Does it move stuff on your screen? Speaker 10: Yeah, it's moving things. Speaker 1: Some thoughts on the experience? James: It was pretty easy for our two, but his has a different type of receiver. [crosstalk 00:04:24]. Ours is different, [00:04:30] and it has the buttons on the side, but it was a different setup for the binding, so it took a bit longer. Mitchell: At the start it started disconnecting a lot, but after that it was fine. Matthew G: When it didn't bind right away, we had a lot of questions, so, but it got easier as it went. Speaker 1: More to come on Drone Camp. Speaker 14: I just went straight from there and made it through. Speaker 15: Well, actually, I was scared, because they were going really fast.
