Lee Circle
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Here's a nice aerial view of a prominent landmark in New Orleans, Louisiana, compliments of AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Bumble Bee Productions. It's Lee Circle, an important traffic roundabout at the intersection of St. Charles and Howard Avenues in the city's Central Business District. Until 2017, the column in the center of the circle was the base for a statue of General Robert E. Lee; the 130 year old statue was removed as part of a movement to remove symbols of the Confederacy from public places.

Growing up in New Orleans have had its influence on me and the memories that I treasure most tend to be the more simpler, less revealing tidbits of this diverse culture, history and the impact this city has had in this country. I find myself visiting the city more and more as I get older, I realize what have become important to me in my final journey through life is the appreciation of how things were then, what I call... home. Today, I still see pockets and remnants of my past and have revealed more about me than about this amazing city. I realize that when I left New Orleans ions ago, I had taken its influences in my travels. The attitude, the laid back approach to life, the affinity for great art, music and incredible cuisine that only New Orleans perfected I often would share with strangers, colleagues and friends alike. Lee Circle is one of those memories for me that I remembered most. It was my compass with which I navigated Mardi Gras and where I would end up with friends. Crazies times indeed. Today, It's just a reminder of ignorance and a futile attempt to erase history. I call it the giant New Orleans penis as it sits there with no relevance while the park become a cesspool of homeless urinating on the steps while others sleep their lives away. An amazing rehabilitation of this area has been underway with the warehouse district and countless micro breweries, eateries, loft living, the Riverwalk and the World renown WWII museum as well as other museums in the area have made this a great destination and tourism. The COVID-19 is taking its toll in the area but hard core fans of New Orleans continue to support businesses locally with hopes to soon ending of all the crazies. Now if we could just put that General Lee guy back up there would be great.... Just saying!
