Official Selection at 2018 NYC Drone Film Festival Towering over hundreds of small Kansas towns, grain elevators are the skyscrapers of the U.S. Great Plains. With their capacity to store massive amounts of harvested crops, they form a vital link in the food chain from American farms to the world's tables. This dronie features the pilot, Doug Armknecht, standing on an elevator catwalk, silhouetted by a stunning sunrise on the Kansas prairie. The grain elevator complex shown here is in Lebanon, Kansas (population 216 and home to the Geographic Center of the U.S.). It stores 2.5 million bushels of grain, enough to feed a quarter million people for over a year.
