It's time to fly! But, first Mike gives quick flight procedure instructions. 1) Safety goggles on! 2) Have all toggles switches up or to zero 3) Power up your drone and the controller 4) Place the drone on the floor. A good distance away. 3 feet. 5) The red light on top (the receiver) means that it's connected to the controller 6) The blinking green light means it's warming up. When it's solid green, or goes away, that means it's ready to fly. 7) Arm and disarm... Switch needs to be up if any drone is close to you. And the flights begin! The teams begin practicing for the competition at the end of camp. "Being able to go through those hoops with ease was really challenging. Mainly because it's different than the simulation. The simulation was much harder than real life flying a drone" - Connor "Ya know, it's still pretty difficult because some of the times even if you just tap the ground, the foam is really bouncy so if you hit it, it just bounces straight up. And when you're going down, obviously you want to accelerate so then you're already accelerating so then you're going all the way up. So, that's a problem. I don't know if I like the foam so much." - Andrew W "It went a big better than expected... I could actually make it go up and not instantly flip over and crash into a wall. - Cole B "My drone in particular, in some of the later test flights, it started kinda drifting off in a direction without me telling it to do that, without me turning. We don't know why but I think it's because this propeller is bent up." - Ben "No I don't have any bent propellers but I do have the same drifting off into space problem. I think it there is something about weight distribution." - Cole B I went a little to fast and I got out of control and then I got back into control but it was a little easier than I expected so I was over moving the controls. And then I was doing fine, went through a couple hoops and then something happened and it ran into the hoop. - Jamison "It's hard to do this. It's really hard. Just the controlling it, how fast it goes forward... Practice makes perfect." - Travis "When you go up, you first want to try and hover and then move forward into the hoops and stuff. But when you go up, it goes up pretty fast." - Kedar "The drone is way easier to fly. Mainly because it's more steady. So I got through the first hoop easily. but I can't turn, that's the problem." - Matthew D "It took off, but it's hard to control because it's always trying to go forward so you have to kind of adjust the controls so it's just hovering. I almost got it through a hoop but then it dropped and then it fell backwards." - Cole P Some kids have really gotten the hang of it as the practice days come to an end. And a few have some repairs to make. Will they all have working drones for the competition? Find out next time on Drone Camp. Team One: Cody, Sam, Jamison and Evan Team Two: Nick, Alec, Mitchell and Cole P Team Three: Audrey, Matthew D, Kedar and Matthew G Team Team: Chandler, Connor, Will and Andrew W Team Five: Joey, Ben and Cole B Team Six: Andrew R, Travis and James More episodes of Drone Camp to come!
